  • Why Your To-Do List Never Actually Quiets Down
    2026/09/01
It's late, the kitchen is clean, and the kids are finally asleep — but your mind is still running through everything you haven't finished. The email you never answered. The appointment you never booked. The birthday gift you still need to buy.

This episode looks at why that list keeps interrupting you, whether you're sitting in a meeting or standing at the stove making dinner, and what's actually driving it. Working parents carry a kind of work that never shows up on any chore chart — noticing what needs attention, weighing the options, deciding, and tracking how things are going afterward. Researchers call it cognitive labor, and it helps explain why a day can leave you exhausted with almost nothing crossed off.

You'll hear what's really keeping that list loud in your head, and why the answer isn't finishing more of it.

  • A Two-Minute Way to Quiet a Loud To-Do List
    2026/09/01
Most of what's sitting on your to-do list isn't loud because of how much there is — it's loud because none of it has a specific time attached yet.

This episode walks through a short exercise: choosing three to five tasks that feel most present right now, and giving each one a real time, place, and starting cue instead of leaving it vague. Research on unfinished tasks has found that this kind of specific plan can quiet the mental pull of an open task almost as much as actually finishing it does.

It takes about two minutes, and it won't clear your whole list. But it can change how loudly that list interrupts the rest of your day.

  • The Guilt That Shows Up After You Say No
    2026/09/02
Most of the yeses in your day happen before you've had a chance to check whether there's actually room for them — until the rare time you say no, and a fast, uncomfortable guilt shows up as if you'd done something wrong.

This episode looks at where that guilty feeling actually comes from. It isn't measuring what just happened in the conversation — it's an old, automatic rule firing the moment you say no, whether or not anything is actually wrong on the other end. Research on real people declining real requests shows the reaction they braced for is almost always far bigger than the reaction that actually came.

Once you can see the guilt for what it is — a familiar alarm, not a verdict — it stops needing to be obeyed.
