In this episode, I sit down with Marc Fischer: a police officer of 19 years, Air National Guard veteran, and founder of the Elizabeth Ryan Foundation.

Born and raised in central New Jersey, Marc was brought up in a strong family with values around service, discipline, and compassion. His career path has included roles as a teacher, personal trainer, and federal court deputy clerk before ultimately building a career in law enforcement. He also served six years in the Air National Guard’s 193rd Special Operations Wing, Security Forces Squadron.

Beyond his career, Marc is also a husband and father - we obviously discuss this in length in this episode.

We talk about the intersection of fatherhood, mental health, and the realities of the job, and how difficult it can be to carry the weight of this career while still showing up fully at home.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • The impact of the job on family life and fatherhood
  • Why first responder mental health is still falling short
  • The cultural barriers that make it hard to ask for or accept help
  • How therapy dogs are being used to support first responders and their families
  • The story behind the Elizabeth Ryan Foundation, created in honor of Marc’s late cousin

Marc also shares how his involvement in the K9 community gave him a sense of connection and brotherhood and the deep, emotional, and beautiful story behind his non profit the Elizabeth Ryan Foundation.

Marc's son personally designed the logo for the non-profit and you can purchase merch, which directly supports the foundation HERE or donate HERE.
