Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 71, it’s the turn of Dan Hoff, vocalist in rowdy Irish punk outfit Gurriers!

Having formed during the pandemic, Gurriers first came to my attention at 2000 Trees Festival in 2023, putting on a blistering, no prisoners performance that suggested they would be ones to watch in future.

Cut to September 2026 and off the back of massive shows with the likes of Turnstile and Kneecap, the much anticipated second album from Gurriers, ‘Nobody's Coming To Save You’, arrives this month via Play It Again Sam.

A week ahead of its release, I managed to catch up with Dan during a brief break whilst the band were on tour in America. He did sound a bit underwater at times, but such is the case when you’re conversing with someone bang in the middle of nowheresville, USA!

We spoke of the new record, as well as trying to be an athlete on tour, performing on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’, Irish musicians and comparisons to The Fall.

Ahead of releasing their new record ‘Pugnello’ this month - September 2026 - via Rough Trade Records, I got into it deep with Gilla Band when we spoke over Zoom, touching on their new record, as well as dealing with grief, mental health and Top Cat.

Formed in 2009 in Sowerby Bridge, Wot Gorilla? ain’t lying when they say they’ve carved out their own corner of the UK’s math and post-hardcore scene. Nearly 20 years in the game, the line-up has shifted over the years, as they’ve shared stages with all sorts, from Rolo Tomassi to The Get Up Kids.

Having interviewed Mat many times over the past decade plus, we reconnected at the start of 2026 ahead of the release of the latest Wot Gorilla? album, ‘Stay Home’, out that very same month via Drongo Records. With the record coming out just shy of 10 years on from the release of their last EP, ‘Angel Numbers’, we had a lot to talk about!

Over Zoom, we spoke of life at home in Halifax, Turnstile rumours, the joys of social media, playing music as an older person and almost two decades of Wot Gorilla?
