  • 60 Minutes or less - Episode 66 - Walter Schreifels (Quicksand / Gorilla Biscuits)
    2026/07/14

Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 66, it’s an honour to feature an interview with Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Rival Schools and more!

A man of many iconic moments in hardcore - according to one YouTube comment, the man who “legalised being handsome in hardcore” - Walter Schreifels has been ripping it since the late 80s and continues to do so today.

With Quicksand, completed by bassist Sergio Vega and drummer Alan Cage, Schreifels has released four studio albums, with their latest - ‘Bring On The Psychics’ - arriving July 2026 via Equal Vision Records / Rude Records.

I caught up with Walter over Zoom in May ahead of the release of their new album, where we spoke of the record, as well as The Smiths, Wetherspoons, 80s movies, his connection to hardcore and the literal youth of today. Walter was talking to me from the lobby of a hotel, so there’s the occasional dip in and out of signal, but you’ll soon get to grips with it.

  • 60 Minutes or less - Episode 65 - Primitive Ring
    2026/06/30

Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 65, we get fuzzy, welcoming Bert Hoover, Jon Modaff and Charles Moothart of power-trio supergroup Primitive Ring!

Formed in September 2024 and featuring players from the likes of Groop, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Fuzz and GØGGS, last year saw Primitive Ring release four 7"s across four choice labels at home and in the UK. As expected, these sold like hot cakes and built up anticipation for their forthcoming debut album.

With them being spread out across Los Angeles, I caught up with the three of them over Zoom in April 2026, where we spoke of their self-titled debut album - out now on In the Red Records - as well as their influences and aesthetic, collaborating with different labels and being creative during times of hardship.

  • 60 Minutes or less - Episode 64 - Downtown Boys
    2026/06/16

Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 64, we get political, welcoming vocalist Victoria Marie and guitarist Joey La Neve DeFrancesco of NYC outfit Downtown Boys!

Victoria and Joey first met at union meetings while working together at a hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, brought together to write early songs about issues including exploitative workplaces. Before too long, the collective had three full length albums under their belts and have become known for a raucous live show, whilst still keeping politics front and center.

New album ‘Public Luxury’ is out June 2026 via Sub Pop - arriving nearly a decade after their Sub Pop debut ‘Cost of Living’. I caught up with Victoria and Joey over Zoom in April 2026, where we spoke of the new record, as well as cassette tapes, the cost of touring, activism, fighting the good fight and remembering Victoria Marie’s late grandmother - the number one Downtown Boys fan.
