Met in the Thread: Sacred Attention & the Art of Mending
What if mending isn’t just about fixing what’s torn—but about paying attention to what’s right in front of us?In this episode of Met in the Mess, part of our Met in the Making creativity series, we’re getting into the world of thread, mending, and sacred attention. As we stitch, repair, and create with our hands, we’re reminded that God is also a God who restores, redeems, and makes things new.
Mending invites us to slow down and notice. To sit with what is broken instead of rushing past it. To practice patience with imperfect things—and imperfect people. And maybe, in the quiet rhythm of a needle passing through fabric, we can begin to recognize the presence of God meeting us in the ordinary.
We’re looking at Isaiah 61, where Scripture describes God as the One who binds up the brokenhearted, brings beauty from ashes, and restores what has been devastated. We’ll also spend time in Matthew 9, reflecting on Jesus’ compassion for people who were hurting, overlooked, and in need of restoration.
Just as a torn piece of fabric can be carefully stitched back together, our lives can hold places that need the gentle work of God’s restoration.
This episode is an invitation to ask:
Where might God be inviting me to slow down, pay attention, and participate in His work of mending?

A Thread to Carry With You
What is something in your life that feels “torn” right now?Instead of immediately asking, How can I fix this? try asking:
“Jesus, what are You inviting me to notice here?”
Sometimes sacred attention begins simply by staying long enough to see what God is already doing.
About Met in the Making
Met in the Making is a creativity-focused series from Met in the Mess, exploring the ways creativity, making, and ordinary rhythms can become places where we encounter God.Whether we’re crocheting, journaling, sewing, creating, or simply making room to slow down, we believe Jesus meets us right in the middle of the making.
Because sometimes the most sacred moments happen in the seemingly ordinary ones.
You don’t have to have it all together to meet Jesus here.
