How can רע exist in a world created by a Hashem Who is כולו טוב?
We begin Torah 33 by developing a framework of top-down versus bottom-up. From the top down, everything emerges from אחדות. From the bottom up, we encounter a fragmented world of competing forces, different people, different middos, and apparent טוב ורע.
Rabbeinu opens with the need to seek שלום. Not sameness, but שלימות. The ability to see how different pieces, even those that seem opposed, can find their proper place within one greater picture.
This becomes the beginning of learning to find Hashem בין בטיבו בין בעקו, in the good and in what appears bad, and to discover the שכינה even within concealment.
