What happens when the child you spent years raising becomes responsible for a life of their own?

For years, being a good mom required you to do a LOT. You protected. You guided. You made decisions. You helped solve problems. God entrusted these little people to your care, and faithful stewardship really did mean carrying responsibility for them.

And then they become adults...and your role begins to change.

In this episode of Faith, Fire, Freedom, we're talking about what it looks like to parent adult children with love, wisdom, and open hands. Together we'll explore how to support without taking over, how to process the very real emotions that come with watching our children make their own decisions, and how to trust God in the places we simply cannot go. We'll also talk about something we can easily forget in this season: our children aren't the only ones still growing. God is still growing us, too.

In This Episode You'll Hear
  • Why becoming the mother of an adult child doesn't mean your job is over—it means your role is changing
  • What Galatians 6 teaches us about the balance between supporting someone and allowing them to carry what belongs to them
  • Why giving our adult children room to take responsibility can communicate, “I believe you're capable”
  • How to have real emotions about your adult child's choices without making them responsible for resolving those emotions for you
  • Why emotional maturity doesn't mean emotional numbness
  • What Psalm 139 reminds us about God's presence in all the places we cannot go
  • Why surrendering our adult children to God doesn't mean becoming indifferent or never speaking truth
  • What a nearly 100-year-old mother taught me about what remains when so much of motherhood changes
  • Why your adult children aren't the only ones becoming—and how Romans 12 turns our attention toward the work God is still doing in us
  • The question I'm learning to bring before the Lord in this season: “That was faithful stewardship then. What does faithful stewardship look like now?”
Scripture Mentioned
  • Galatians 6:1–5
  • Psalm 139:1–10
  • Romans 12:1–2
