概要
What if we inherited a version of church Jesus never intended? In this episode of Talks with Gallagher, John Gallagher welcomes Dwight and Doe Kopp, authors of Primal Church, to explore Christian community, authentic fellowship, and the difference between attending church and truly belonging. Drawing on their personal journey and their understanding of the New Testament, Dwight and Doe challenge a spectator approach to faith. They discuss what it means for every believer to participate, share spiritual gifts, and contribute to the life of the body of Christ. The conversation begins with a near-fatal carbon monoxide incident that became a powerful illustration in their book. From there, we explore their perspective on church history, Constantine, the Anabaptists, and the development of institutional Christianity before turning to practical questions about house churches, discipleship, and everyday relationships. At the heart of this episode is belonging: being known, making room for vulnerability, and learning to recognize what others bring to Christian community. In this conversation:
  • Moving from passive attendance to active participation.
  • Understanding koinonia, fellowship, and shared life.
  • Spiritual gifts and the priesthood of all believers.
  • Leadership that points people toward Christ rather than a personality.
  • Why changing the location of church does not automatically change its culture.
  • Including children and multiple generations in fellowship.
  • Starting small with meaningful relationships instead of another program.
Whether you feel lonely at church, are exploring house church, or want deeper connections within your existing faith community, this episode offers questions to consider about discipleship, participation, and life together.
