Mahwish Syed sees it as closer to oxygen. When the body is in alignment, beauty is the byproduct. And the environment you live in every day is either feeding that alignment or quietly working against it.Mahwish learned this in the hardest way possible. During cancer treatment, with no hair, no eyebrows, and bone pain, she got dressed every day, put on lipstick, set the table with her best dishes and fresh flowers, and walked her son to school. She called them rituals of reverence. She later found the science behind what she'd been doing by instinct: beauty moves the nervous system toward the parasympathetic state, where the body can rest and repair. She turned her illness into what she calls a love affair, and today she says she looks better than she did in her 30s.In this episode, Meredith and Mahwish walk room by room through a home built for your biology: light that follows the arc of the sun, art that lands your eye on nature, color that knows when to soothe and when to stimulate, and scent you grow yourself. Somewhere along the way, Meredith realizes they aren't only talking about beauty. They're talking about agency. In this episode:Why Mahwish defines beauty as alignment you feel, not an object you acquire, and how neuroaesthetics connects beauty to the nervous system through all five sensesHow she turned cancer treatment into daily rituals of beauty, and why her mother's advice (wash your face, put your makeup on, go for a walk) held upBeauty that includes darkness: grief, anger, and the corner of your home where you can go cryLighting that mimics the sun: morning light outside, lamps and sconces at eye level in the evening, overhead lights for tasks onlyThe hidden flicker problem: an LED bulb paired with an incompatible dimmer can flicker without you seeing it, and what to ask your electricianWhy art showing nature affects your biology differently than abstract art, and Meredith's own shift from modern art to a pastoral print in an antique storeThe case for an art gallery in your kitchen, the room where alchemy happensSoothing colors (greens and blues) versus stimulating colors (reds, oranges, yellows), and why every room needs a touch of black to ground itLow-commitment color: pillows, a favorite scarf from your closet, a wild wallpaper inside the coat closet, a funky powder roomMeredith's curtain story, and what a neglected home can say about your internal stateChaos versus clutter: why evidence of your creative life belongs out in the openPleasure as a biological need, not a reward you earn after being productiveGrowing scent at home: jasmine, fragrant orchids, rosemary, mint, basil, and simmering orange peels and spices on the stoveThe scents you can't smell: VOCs from synthetic rugs, glues, and MDF, and why to skip synthetic air freshenersAn assignment for Meredith and for you: put a piece of art somewhere unexpected and share a photoTimestamps00:00 Morning Light Rituals00:46 Beauty as a Biological Need02:34 Neuroaesthetics Explained03:35 Cancer and Beauty as a Healing Practice04:42 Redefining Beauty Beyond Cosmetics08:14 Designing for Balance13:40 How Your Environment Signals Your Body16:39 Biophilia and Natural Materials17:49 Circadian Lighting at Home19:20 LED Flicker and Dimmer Problems23:37 Art, Nature, and Healing Spaces29:22 Color Psychology and Play32:05 Beauty as a Daily Practice35:15 Beauty, Ritual, and Your Inner Goddess36:27 Acting Before You Have Perfect Information37:23 Beauty as Agency38:53 Neuroaesthetics at Home41:40 Connection and Creative Chaos44:17 Color Psychology and Black Accents47:41 Lighten Up and Take Action53:09 Pleasure, Rest, and Productivity59:07 Scent, Memory, and the Home01:04:06 Synthetic Fragrances and VOCs01:06:31 Beauty Is Oxygen01:07:22 Final Thanks and SubscribeConnect with Mahwish SyedInstagram: @mahwish_syed_designsLinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/mahwish-syed-designs/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mahwishsyeddesigns Resources MentionedMahwish Syed Designs: https://www.msd-ny.comClaim Your Paradise: https://www.claimyourparadise.comPurgatory to Paradise by Mahwish Syed: https://www.msd-ny.com/bookMahwish on QBC Pod Ep 023, Quantum Health Informed Homes That Heal Our Bodies and Souls: https://quantumbiologycollective.substack.com/p/ep-023-quantum-health-informed-homes-fea"The Guest House" by RumiThe Birth of Venus by Sarah DunantThe Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown (the RAC Thursday book club pick)Join the Reverse Aging Club and the free weekly live call: https://reverseagingclub.substack.comConnect with The Reverse Aging Club: On Substack: reverseagingclub.substack.comVisit The Reverse Aging Club: reverseaging.clubJoin us for a weekly live hang out, Thursdays at 12noon ET https://zoom.us/meeting/register/j_07VPOWRbWYtZWbimO9bgInstitute of Applied Quantum ...
