In this episode, Jummie sits down with veteran journalist and author Chris Riker about his latest book, 'Darkling and American Hymn.' The discussion delves into themes of slavery, capitalism, and human nature, exploring how historical and modern forces shape human behavior and societal structures. Riker shares insights from his writing process, his character development, and his broader spiritual journey. The conversation also touches on the insidious nature of slavery's origins in Rhode Island, the seduction of wealth and power, and the importance of empathy over selfishness. Through the lens of magical realism, Riker's book brings historical events to life, challenging readers to think deeply about history, morality, and the potential for human growth.
