September is Suicide Prevention Month, and this week we're having a conversation that is much heavier than usual. We're talking honestly about depression, suicidal thoughts, and the ways many of us learned to deal with mental health growing up in the church. Bucky shares openly about his own experiences with depression and suicidal thoughts. Mark talks about losing people close to him to suicide. And we discuss what happens when someone who is already struggling is told that depression means they don't have enough faith, aren't praying enough, or have somehow disappointed God.We also talk about therapy, why men often have such a difficult time asking for help, the pressure pastors can carry in silence, and why sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply give someone a safe place to talk. This isn't a clinical discussion, and the three of us aren't mental-health professionals. It's a personal conversation between three guys who have encountered depression and suicide from very different sides of it.This episode includes frank discussion of suicide, suicidal thoughts, and loss by suicide. Please take care of yourself while listening. If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts or are concerned about someone who is, call or text 988 in the United States to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If there is an immediate danger or medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
