James Meyers, III recounts the historical realities surrounding the Arian controversy following the Council of Nicea, particularly through the Father of Orthodoxy, Athanasius. The great tower of the faith, along with some contemporaries, stood strong against the intrusion of heresy within the Church. There is an idea with some that the institutional church, through its political and ecclesiastical authority, suppressed these challengers for power. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it was quite the reverse. The Arians enjoyed a prestigious alliance with high ranking Roman officials, up to and including the Emperor himself. James gives a brief historical analysis and considers some linguistic terms which made the controversy that much more difficult.
