I've been an artist for over 30 years, and since 2009 I've made my living from my art. Along the way, I've learned that becoming a successful professional artist isn't just about talent. It's about making a lot of work, developing your unique artistic voice, learning the business of art, getting your work in front of the right people, building meaningful relationships, finding mentors and community, and staying faithful for the long haul.

In this video, I'm sharing the lessons that would have saved me years of frustration, unnecessary mistakes—and probably quite a bit of money.

We'll talk about why you need to start treating your art like it matters before anyone else does, why there's no substitute for making lots of art, how your unique artistic voice actually develops, why mentorship can accelerate your growth, what every artist needs to understand about marketing and selling art, and why you need to get your artwork in front of real people as often as possible.

But most importantly, we'll talk about how to build an art career without carrying the pressure of believing that everything depends on you.

As a Christian artist, your responsibility isn't to manufacture your future. It's to faithfully steward what God has put in your hands, develop your gifts, take wise action and trust Him with the outcome.
