DESCRIPTION (EN)
In this first episode of Teatro y Memoria, host Giovanna Manola talks with Seville-based playwright and director Ruth Rubio (born in Punta Umbría), winner of the 2025 SGAE Award and the 2019 Romero Esteo Prize. Rubio explains how she arrived at historical memory almost by accident, recognising her great-aunt in a documentary about the 1937 Desbandá, the mass flight and killing of civilians between Málaga and Almería, and uncovering a silence her own family had kept for decades. That discovery led to “Ponedle pantalones a la luna” (staged at Teatro Central de Sevilla) and her forthcoming play “La niña del pollo”. The conversation moves through official history versus personal memory, why she rejects the term “civil war” for what was a coup, the ethics of voicing silenced victims without turning them into objects of pity, and how sound, fragmentation, and real spaces can bend time on stage.
