In this quiet hour, twelve old stories gather around one human longing: the wish for a small fire in the dark. From sky-houses and mountain shrines, from cedar forests, cold rivers, jaguar hearths, and temple stones, fire is stolen, discovered, carried, bargained for, and finally shared with mortal hands. Long after the old altars cooled, the gods and tricksters of many peoples still wait by the edge of memory. Tonight, by lamplight, we remember them softly, until the stolen ember becomes only warmth, and the night grows gentle around it.
