In this episode of the Bitcoin Reformation Podcast, we’re joined by Jacob Klug, a former parish administrator, to discuss how he found Bitcoin through concerns about church budgeting, inflation, and the downstream effects of fiat money. Jacob argues fiat strains relationships in the church by amplifying power imbalances, shaping decisions, and indirectly influencing people, even calling the church’s complicity in fiat a form of sin because money printing dilutes labor and “steals” time. We explore money as embodied ideas, unjust scales, and how fear of losing dollars can become an idol that harms stewardship. Jacob makes a case for Bitcoin’s hope for the church, especially through a “Bitcoin federation” (multisig/fedimint-style) model that could enable community-based circular economies, strengthen trust, and support church-to-church connections, including across borders.
