2018年、3rdフルアルバム『LOVE YOURSELF 轉 “Tear”』に収録された「134340」。

この数字は、かつて太陽系第9惑星だった冥王星が、惑星としての地位を失った後に与えられた小惑星番号です。

以前は太陽系を構成する特別な惑星だったのに、ある日その世界から外され、番号を与えられた冥王星。

BTSはその姿を、別れによって恋人の世界から消されてしまった人に重ねました。

相手はもう自分を忘れて先へ進んでいる。それでも自分だけは、以前と変わらず相手を中心に回り続けている――。

今回は、なぜこの曲が「Pluto」ではなく「134340」と名付けられたのか、元タイトル“Call Me”との切ないつながり、「マイナス248度」やErisに込められた天文学的な意味、そして“公転”と“空回り”を重ねた歌詞を紐解きます。

In this episode, we explore BTS’s “134340.”

Released in 2018 as part of their third full-length album, LOVE YOURSELF 轉 “Tear,” the song takes its title from the minor-planet number assigned to Pluto after it lost its status as the ninth planet in our solar system.

Once recognized as a special part of the planetary system, Pluto was suddenly removed from that world and given a number.

BTS transforms its story into a metaphor for someone who has been erased from a former lover’s world.

The other person has already forgotten them and moved on. Yet they remain trapped in the same orbit, still revolving around the person who once stood at the center of their universe.

Why was the song titled “134340” rather than “Pluto”? We explore the heartbreaking connection to its original title, “Call Me,” the astronomical meanings behind “minus 248 degrees” and Eris, and the lyrics’ interplay between orbiting someone and going around in emotional circles.

We also look at the story of RM writing the lyrics while walking around Samseong Station, and how the light flute, jazzy instrumentation, and laid-back groove surround this frozen tale of heartbreak with a distinctive sense of weightlessness.

Released in 2014 on their first full-length album, DARK & WILD, “Hip Hop Phile” is more than just a song about loving hip-hop.

For RM, hip-hop begins with words.

For j-hope, it begins with the body and rhythm.

For SUGA, it becomes a life choice.

Each of them entered hip-hop through a different door, and in this song, they tell their own stories of why hip-hop mattered to them and how it shaped who they became.

SUGAがまだ練習生だった頃から作り続けていたこの曲には、毎日が同じことの繰り返しに感じられ、夢へ向かっているはずなのに自分だけが同じ場所に立ち続けている――そんな若者の焦りと不安が描かれています。

では、なぜ彼らは「明日を信じて」と言うのではなく、「明日から離れすぎないで」と歌ったのでしょうか。

今回は、SUGAが本当に“明日が怖い側”にいた時代にこの曲を作った背景、「Ctrl+C、Ctrl+V」や“like breaker”に込められた意味、そしてSUGA、RM、j-hopeそれぞれのラップが描く、異なる“Tomorrow”について紐解きます。

#103 Tomorrow — Don’t get too far away, tomorrow.

In this episode, we explore BTS’s “Tomorrow.”

Released in 2014 on their second mini album, Skool Luv Affair, “Tomorrow” began as a song SUGA had been working on since his trainee days.

It captures the anxiety and frustration of young people who feel as though every day is repeating itself—moving toward their dreams, yet somehow remaining stuck in the same place.

So why, instead of simply telling us to believe in tomorrow, do they ask us not to drift too far away from it?

We explore the story behind the song, written during a time when SUGA himself was genuinely afraid of what tomorrow might bring; the meanings behind “Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V” and “like breaker”; and the different versions of “tomorrow” portrayed in the verses of SUGA, RM, and j-hope.

We also look at the subtle difference between the Korean expressions “살아지다” and “살아내다,” as well as the original 2014 dance practice footage released in 2022.

These are words sent to someone standing in the same darkness by seven young artists who did not yet know that dawn would eventually come for them.

“Tomorrow” is more than a song telling us not to give up on our dreams.

Even when we feel unable to move forward, it quietly asks us not to mistake our present standstill for the end of our journey—and not to drift too far away from our dreams or from the future.

It is one of the earliest examples of the honest, deeply grounded hope that would come to define BTS’s music.
