  • I can totally do that! Episode 4: Academic Advisor

    Welcome to the fourth episode of I can totally do that! This podcast is where we explore careers and opportunities for people with disabilities from the perspectives of people with disabilities.




    On this episode I interview Eric Simie. He is retired from being and academic advisor at a local community college.


    In this episode we talk about how his cerebral palsy uniquely affects his function throughout his body. We talked about how his college experience positively impacted his career choice. Eric tells listeners about his favorite part of being advisor. It is truly a privilege to see the students that you have helped grow into successful people! Eric’s and I conversation end with talking about how he wish that he used accommodations to make his job easier. He encourages people to use the accommodations that with work the best for them. Eric had some wonderful insights about his life that he shares with listeners.

    Welcome to the third episode of I can totally do that! This podcast is where we explore careers and opportunities for people with disabilities from the perspectives of people with disabilities.


    On this episode I interview the amazing Duncan Wyeth. He is retired from paid employment but not from advocacy.


    In this episode we talk about a variety of things including how Duncan was impacted to go into education by his family. We also talk about the impact of language and how people perceive people with “accents” and their intelligence. Duncan expressed how important his work has been to make sure that people with disabilities are included in the community! We talked about so many impactful things in this episode and his perspective brings light to a lot of things that I have never thought of. I sincerely hope that you learn something from this episode and enjoy it as much as I did!

    The first guest is Mason Shrader and he is a PhD student in archaeology at Brown University. He has cerebral palsy (CP).

    We talk about the challenges and successes that Mason has gone through while navigating his career with CP.
