Domestic abuse does not always begin with violence. Sometimes it begins with attention, promises, and a love so intense that you do not notice your world becoming smaller.

Wild to Wonderful is the true story of K Judd, a woman who survived coercive control, violence and the night she believed she would be killed. She was only twenty when the relationship began. Before long, fear had entered every part of her life, and the person hurting her had become the person she believed she could not live without.

But leaving was not the end.

Kirsty lost her home, her work, her income, and the daily care of her daughter while trying to survive the man who had harmed her. She was judged for returning and expected to explain herself perfectly while her whole life was falling apart.

This is not a polished story about a woman who simply walked away and became fearless. It is the honest story of what survival really looks like. It is about shame, motherhood, systems that can protect or punish, and the long road back to your own voice.

It is also a story of horses. Cairo was anxious, frightened, and misunderstood. In learning to slow down for him, Kirsty began to understand what fear had done to her own body. Together, Kirsty, her daughter and Cairo found a gentler way forward.

Today, Kirsty is a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Adviser and Independent Sexual Violence Adviser. She uses professional knowledge and lived experience to speak for survivors who remain unseen, including older victims and those isolated in rural, farming and equestrian communities.

Powerful, compassionate and deeply personal, Wild to Wonderful speaks to anybody who has questioned why they stayed, why they returned or why leaving did not make them feel free. It ends with a moving letter to Kirsty's daughter on her eighteenth birthday, and one truth every survivor deserves to hear.
