あらすじ・解説

When Keira Saxon’s father was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, she quit her job as a Chicago homicide detective to head home. But she hadn’t been back on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula long before Danny Saxon was dead, killed in a deadly bear attack. Keira bowed to public pressure and agreed to run in the special election to fill the rest of her father’s term as sheriff. Although doubts about the circumstances of Danny's death lingered, doubts were all she had. Until she received a grisly delivery and learned that her father’s death wasn’t an accident at all.

Finn Carstens agrees to partner with Keira’s department to solve the murder. When proof of a second victim comes to light, he realizes that the killer is engaging them in the deadliest of contests. Together they must unmask a man who lives - and kills - in the shadows. As they begin to discover his secrets they realize the chilling truth that only the killer's former victims knew: of all the predators lurking in the Michigan forests, man is the most lethal of all.

Good story...but a bit annoying for a Michigander

While Bronson Pinchot is a good narrator, he could have been an even better one if he had bothered to find out the correct pronunciations of certain places, e.g., Sault St. Marie, Milan... other little annoyances include a 79-year-old woman with a 27-year old son? (Not unheard-of, but really? Why?)

Brant and Pinchot a winning combination

As riveting as all of the Mindhunters series . Keira must catch the killer who has his sights on her in a deadly game of hunter and prey. A true psychopathic hunter it is not until the final chapter that we can unravel all of the false clues and planted "scents" and know who is the mastermind behind these twisted and deadly games. And investigators who keep investigating even when they think they have all of the clues figured out are a rare breed and always worth my time as a listener.

Good, less fun than others in series

Enjoyed the setting for this one. The plot was a tad convoluted, but ok; not quite as engaging as previous installments. The romance also didn’t really feel natural either. I don’t know exactly why it felt that way, maybe the characters’ development didn’t quite get us there. Enjoyable, but not one of my favorites in the series.

Bronson Pinchot did a great job EXCEPT for the mispronunciations of some names. Most areas have place names that are not pronounced by locals in keeping with how they are spelled. I wish the authors would give their narrators a heads up on some of these to sound more native. Pinchot got some of these right, but missed others. The one that comes most readily to mind is Sault Ste. Marie.

All books in this series are exactly the same

Man and woman with troubled backgrounds but strong investigation skills are assigned to a case. They don’t get along at first but suddenly interest is sparked. There is 25 minutes of porn. Miraculously they solve the murder, one is nearly killed and they fall in love. All in a matter of days.

narrator

I didn't like the voice the narrator chose for Kera. Made her sound meek and timid. She was the Sheriff.

Great Story, But Too Much Shouting / Yelling

I like this series, this story is good, but does not fit into the series. I like Bronson Pinchot's narration through out the series, he keeps the character voices and personalities consistent. The only problem I have with his narration for this book is all but 3 or 4 characters shout or yell every time they speak.

Good story, not great reading performance

The story was interesting and kept my attention. I did not like the performance of the reader, particularly when he would read the women's part of the story.

Felt unattached to rest, but good anyhow

This felt like it was outside the series but it was still good. Had only 1 character, and we aren’t that familiar with him.

Narrator was not as annoying this time.

Good

3.5 Stars for me

This has been a good series but this story was missing the personal connection for me. The relationship felt a bit forced and I found myself drifting while listening to the story. It didn't help that the narrator ratchets up his voice for a couple of the characters which felt like nails on a chalkboard.
