For years, rumors of the "hairy beast" have haunted the woods of Missouri, a Midwestern state filled with river bluffs and caves. So in late 2014, when housewife and mother Emily is discovered missing, the locals immediately suspect Dave, her ex-husband. But Emily is not where they believe. Sensitive and humorous, she has survived for weeks alone in the new underground area that she calls home, finding new friendships in the dirt-filled paths and caves. Then the time comes to become Stem's mate. He becomes intrigued by her wild beauty and Emily opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.
Urban Bigfoot is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking finding-yourself story, and a surprising tale of survival and the strangest of love. Em reminds us that we are forever shaped by who we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and thrilling secrets that the woods hold. Stem takes her into his world leaving her family to search for her desperately. She is unlike any human woman he has known before. The days and weeks go by as Em struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. Along the way, we witness her fear and longing to find an escape. Will her strength be enough to endure this new life that has found her?
