あらすじ・解説

I’m a kick-butt tracker. The best in the business.

Dead or alive, I find them. No one can hide from me, including people’s predestined mates. I can hook couples up better than Tinder. It’s my specialty. A year ago, I opened my own agency, and now that I’m finally looking out for number one, my bank account has regained its lost confidence.

So, when Jake Knight suddenly returns, determined to drag me back into the dangerous life I used to lead - the same one where ramen was a staple, and I became homeless - I put my brand-new Louis Vuitton boot down. He can take his hot werewolf self back to whatever hole he crawled from.

Sure, it sucks there’s a supernatural war brewing, and the werewolf I used to date has gone missing, but Jake won’t drag me back into that life. No way. He can fight crime all on his lonesome. I’m done with it.

Or at least that’s my goal until the attempts on my life begin, and I barely escape. Now, I have an ancient vampire on my tail and a hot werewolf reawakening our troubled past, and I must fight not to lose myself again.

If you enjoy K.F. Breene, Shannon Mayer, Annette Marie, Jennifer Estep, and CN Crawford, then prepare to enjoy a witty heroine and her rekindling romance with the hot werewolf who broke her heart. Step into the Mate Tracker Agency and find your soulmate.

This is an upper YA/NA crossover best suited for age 16+ since steaminess increases through the course of the series.

Cheesy, inconsistent

the narrator was ok, but there were parts that she should have re-recorded due to writer's tone cues she missed.

Story was needlessly convoluted. Struggled to finish it. Ended on cliffhanger. Not checking out the rest of the series.

Trackers Mate bk 1

Antoinetta ‘Toni’ Sunder (tracker)- used to date Jake Knight (were wolf) were an awesome team. They worked together to investigate and locate missing pers, until he leaves her (heart broken) without an explanation. Toni rebuilds her life and her business only now she's specializing in finding the perfect love match, not the missing. It's not as lucrative as the missing, but it's not as dangerous.
When Jake Knight suddenly returns to town and sets up his own P Eye business right beside her office Toni is determined to ignore Jake regardless of her continued attraction.
Between the disgust of the senior werewolf clans men, and an ancient vampire threatening Toni's life - Toni is nosey enough to get to the bottom of what's going on, but not physically capable of doing anything to save her own life.

Exciting debut of a compelling new series

Antoinetta ‘Toni’ Sunder, tracks people’s mates for a living. Humans, vampires, werewolves, Fae. You name it. She can hook couples up better than Tinder. In fact, as co owner of Sunder’s Tracker Agency - along with her business partner and best friend, Rosalina Lopez - she’s considered to be one of the best in the business. This is in contrast to a year earlier when the love of her life, Jake Knight, suddenly upped and left her without any explanation, resulting in her life taking a downhill spiral and leading to her eventual homelessness. It was Rosalina who took her off the streets and helped her to turn her life around.

Now to her dismay, Jake is back and needs her help. Stephen Erickson, the estranged son of the Werewolf Alpha, Ulfen Erickson, has suddenly gone missing and he needs her tracking skills to ascertain his whereabouts. Toni briefly dated Stephen on the rebound after Jake until Ulfen gave his son and heir an ultimatum and forced him to end their relationship.

Jake’s reemergence into her life brings back painful memories of their breakup. However with a supernatural war brewing between vampires and werewolves over the missing Stephen as well as the numerous attempts on her life, Toni is forced to reconsider an alliance with Jake. Unknown to Jake, Toni has secrets of her own that she never shared with him during their relationship - the price she has to pay every time she uses her powers.

The Tracker’s Mate is the first compelling instalment of what looks to be a promising series. As someone who is familiar with the author’s previous works, I always look forward to her new releases and this book did not disappoint. In fact, Toni is probably my favourite heroine yet. I love her snarky sense of humour, her vulnerability under the tough exterior she goes at great lengths to hide, her compassion and selflessness. Supporting her throughout her highs and lows is her faithful friend, Rosalina, who rescued Toni when she was down and out on the streets.

The book is told solely from Toni’s point of view and what a delight it was to read from her perspective. I found myself laughing out loud in so many instances while in others my heart felt like it would break for the toil that her powers seemed to take on her.

As always, I was impressed with the author’s world building. It’s apparent early on that tensions in the city between humans, werewolves, vampires, witches, mages and Fae have been running high for many years with each faction wanting more control and power. With a precarious balance constantly teetering on the edge of war, it’s clear that by abducting Stephen Erickson, someone is intent on tipping the scales. The question is who? High on the list is Bernadetta Fiore, the Dark Donna who happens to be the most powerful vampire in the city. As tensions between the vamps and werewolves heighten, it’s up to Toni to find Stephen in order to prevent all out war.

Interestingly humans are referred to as Stales while the supernaturally gifted are referred to as Skews. Toni’s father was a Stale while her mother comes from a long line of witches, mages, trackers and healers. Toni has three siblings; Leo is a skilful mage, Daniella a witch with healing abilities and Lucia who is a witch with strong telekinetic powers.

Toni’s love interest, a werewolf by the name of Jake, was also an interesting protagonist. Several years ago, his brother Neil, went missing and was never found. His father drank himself to death and his mother died of a broken heart not long after. As the last wolf in what was once a powerful werewolf dynasty, it’s important to Jake that he carry on his father’s legacy which in hindsight makes his grandfather Walter’s claims about Toni all the more strange. I’m curious to know more about Walter’s powers as well as his motives in the next instalment.

Tori’s trip to Elf-hame, the Fae Realm was another intriguing aspect as was her meeting with the charismatic Prince Kalyll, of the Seelie Fae. I hope he’ll feature more in the next instalment.

There’s a shocking twist at the end regarding who and what Toni is that threatens everything she thought she knew about herself and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for her.

All in all the author has built a clever engaging world that just begs to be explored further with characters that you will want to spend time with and get to know. Highly recommended.

I received an advanced free audible copy of The Tracker’s Mate and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed by Kasi Hollowell’s clear and concise narration and felt that her voice was perfect for the tone of the novel. She captured the Toni's snark so well.
