概要
A powerful contemporary literary novel about return, revolution, inheritance, memory and the fragile work of founding a country for the second time.Ali Abbasi returns to Dhaka from abroad carrying a wrapped Quran, a rejected paper, a suitcase of old arguments and the accusation of having watched his country’s rupture from elsewhere. The city he enters is not celebrating. It is wet, wounded and waiting. Files move. Names are corrected. Names are omitted. Families return with new language. Students hold up the dead. Old offices reopen under new hands. A country appears to have changed, but the drawers, registers, corridors and ledgers still know how to survive.Abbasi has spent years writing about power, inheritance and the afterlife of empire. But in Dhaka, theory arrives too late. His mother asks what he will do with the Quran in his hands. A driver knows which streets not to enter. A mosque ledger records hunger better than the state records death. A journalist tells him to listen before he speaks. A woman waits with a folded application. A burnt newsroom, a custody register, a rural deed, a political family and the names of the missing gather around the same question.Who will keep the paper now?Written with restraint, moral seriousness and political depth, The Second Founding is a contemporary literary novel about Bangladesh, memory, faith, family, archives, state violence, public grief and the dangerous hope that a country can begin again without repeating the language of the order it has overthrown.A country does not fail only when its ruler falls. It fails later, at a desk, when the right drawer closes.©2026 William Gomes (P)2026 William Gomes 大衆小説 形而上学・幻想 政治
