Charlotte Tarr
When she's dismissed from her job as a reporter for a national newspaper, Morven Munro quits big city life and slinks back to the local rag in her small Scottish home town. But puff pieces and community news are no match for the memories that haunt her every waking moment.
So when she's assigned a feature on Dunmor, Scotland's controversial open prison on a remote island in the North Atlantic, Morven is intrigued. A prison without bars, where prisoners are 'residents' and take up genteel pursuits - is Dunmor a holiday camp for criminals, or a revolutionary rehabilitation experiment?
Morven's plan to tell the story of 'the world's nicest prison' shatters when she recognises a resident. Malcolm Ferguson is a convicted murderer. He's also Morven's brother, whom she last saw 14 years ago, when she stood in the witness box and testified against him.
She wants to flee, but a violent storm makes escape from the island impossible. And the longer Morven spends on Dunmor, the more she's certain something is very, very wrong.
Her journalistic instincts go into overdrive when a body is discovered. This may not be the story she came for - it could be the story that gets her killed - but if she doesn't undercover the truth, she may never get justice for the dead, or clear her own guilty conscience.
She came to tell their story, but someone knows hers . . .

The Residents is a darkly atmospheric and twisty psychological thriller set in an open prison on a remote and windswept Scottish island. Perfect for fans of Lucy Foley, Lisa Jewell and Alice Feeney.
