Portia Welham lives in modern-day New York, but was born 200 years before on an island kingdom ruled by her father. It saves her life, but having grown up in a different era, adult Portia can no longer reconcile to the fate that awaits her back home.
Watching over her shoulder is Michael Bryce, Guardian of the Medallion. It's his job to keep her—and the amulet—safe. And now they're locked in a battle of wills as he attempts to convince her it's time to come home to marry a prince to further her family's interests.
Till one day Michael arrives in her world seriously injured and Portia realizes something is truly amiss on Welham Island.
