批評家のレビュー

"One of the very best writers working today." (Sunday Telegraph)

"A master." (Stephen King)

"Crime thriller writing of the highest order." (Guardian)

あらすじ・解説

The most important case of his life.

Only this time the defendant is himself.

The law of innocence is unwritten. It will not be found in a leather-bound code book. It will never be argued in a courtroom. In nature, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In the law of innocence, for every man not guilty of a crime there is a man out there who is. And to prove true innocence the guilty man must be found and exposed to the world.

Heading home after winning his latest case, Defence Attorney Mickey Haller - the Lincoln Lawyer - is pulled over by the police. They open the trunk of his car to find the body of a former client.

Haller knows the law inside out. He will be charged with murder. He will have to build his case from behind bars. And the trial will be the trial of his life.

Because Mickey Haller will defend himself in court.

With watertight evidence stacked against him, Haller will need every trick in the book to prove he was framed.

But a not-guilty verdict isn't enough. In order to truly walk free, Haller knows he must find the real killer - that is the law of innocence....

Crime doesn't come better than Connelly.

Michael Connelly At His Best

I have listened and enjoyed every Michael Connelly book at this one did not disappoint.
Mikey Haller is the victim of the perfect frame. Can he wiggle out? Of course, the listner is not really worried. After all, the Lincoln Lawyer must triumph to keep the series going. Yet the plot is weaved so skillfully that the suspense never lets down. Then there is the gallery of characters we know so well, nail biting court drama and a satisfactory ending which leaves you smiling and waiting for the next book .

Because Mickey Haller will defend himself in court.

With watertight evidence stacked against him, Haller will need every trick in the book to prove he was framed.

Crime doesn't come better than Connelly. Certainly a re-listen for me

Peter Giles was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Good, but to much politics

I liked it. but was it really necessary to criticise Donald Trump and Fox News? it didn't make a difference to the story.

Excellent Book

The narration couldn’t be improved on. Really did bring the characters alive. First rate. Very good story too. I couldn’t wait to listen to the next installment.Mickey Haller and Bosch. Like to read more of this combination. I really enjoy the Lincoln Lawyer series. Would like to have heard how Bishop ended up. More could have been made of his involvement in plot. Thoroughly good listen.

So-so story ruined

Melodramatic narrator spoils a mediocre story line. The final reveal is anti-climactic. For fans only.

Another great Lincoln Lawyer story

I enjoyed the book. It's a tricky law case, the story is fast moving, just complicated enough, and set in Michael Connelly's great LA universe. It helps that Harry Bosch appears. Didn't give it 5 stars mainly because the narrator reads everything in the same exaggerated intense manner. He's got a good voice for mystery books, but emphasis becomes pointless when every sentence is emphasised.

After a few bad ones, finally a good book by MC

Haller's return is excellent. The book grabs us by the throat from the first action and holds it almost to the end. This time the main accused is Haller himself, and each action gives the impression of increasing pressure and the passing time. In addition, an experienced prosecutor stands in front of him, and she wants to be successful at all costs. This combination of characters and action gives us a really dynamic mix and draws us into the story. The reader is excellent and makes the atmosphere. The solution leaves room for a sequel, and we'll probably see it sometime.

An excellent Mickey Haller addition

For those who like the Mickey Haller series read by Peter Giles, this does not disappoint.
The story is well crafted and brings together elements from Mickeys past.
There is a review lamenting the politics of this book, but while contemporary to the period of its setting, I struggled to find ANY reference to either Fox News or Trump.
This is a bitter battle between the DA and an innocent man, leaving you feeling lucky that that man is Mickey Haller. Enjoy.

Excellent story but irritating narration.

Excellent plot and believable characters. Spoilt by the narration. The narrator emphasises random words, seemingly without taking meaning into account.

Gripping from beginning to End

I was disappointed (for the 1st time ever) with Michael Connelly’s last novel, Fair Warning, but what a come back The Law of Innocence is !
I literally could not stop listening. A gripping tale told with consummate skill by the narrator. Highly recommended.

Immersive

Personally, I enjoy The Lincoln Lawyer stories almost as much as the Harry Bosch series and for me this was no exception. I wasn't too sure about the narrator at first but after a chapter or two I began to appreciate the performance more and more.

Gripping storyline

Another excellent Lincoln Lawyer story, I have yet to find a Michael Connelly story that disappoints. Always enjoy it when the brothers work together even in a small part of the story. Highly recommended. With mention of Wuhan to show how up to date it is.

Good story

This is a good story and well narrated. I marked it down because of the author trying foist his political views on me. I have no interest in American politics but the obvious dislike of Trump was sad to hear. So after this book that’s the last Connelly I will purchase, and I have read or listened to all of the Bosch books and several Haller offerings. Keep your politics to yourself.

Very enjoyable, true to form. Hours and hours of entertainment. You won't be disappointed. Having said that it took me a while to get used to the narrator (every line was given equal dramatic importance). Good pacing and likeable characters. I recommend

most unpleasant main character

Have enjoyed the Harry Bosch books. Despite Bosch being dour and unsmiling, he is authentic, ethical and intelligent. I have often found that I can like a series by an author but not others [eg L.J Ryan, Robert Dugoni, Gretta Mulrooney]/ Unfortunately with while Law of Innocence has an ok plot, the main character is a most unpleasant individual, limited, arrogant and selfish and the narrator makes him even worse. wouldn't have minded a very different outcome for the character!

t The Gangs All Here

Typical Micky Haller. This story is well performed but slightly too formulaic. Connelly seems to have worked very hard to inject a lot of the characters we have met in the past. The prosecutor seems to be immune from sanctions and only has to apologize before she continues on her unethical/illegal way.

He can write a page turner, but has run out of good ideas to resolve the story.

Like Grisham, Connelly has many classics of the genre under his belt. He knows how to hook you and keep you turning the pages. Unfortunately, just like Grisham, Connelly seems to have run out of ideas on how to close out a story. The resolution of his recent books rely more on chance than as a result of good detective work or court room drama - the ride leading up to the resolution, though entertaining, proves to be largely irrelevant.
I’ll keep reading Connelly but I’m losing patience.

The Law of Innocence

You have done it agin Michael Connelly, you keep you writing full of suspense and the narrator was excellent. His deep moody voice added to the main character and made listening all the more enjoyable.

Thanks you all that work on this.

Gripping and Excellent

Like others, my only complaint is this book was so absorbing , I felt compelled to consume it all within two days. Michael Connelly knows how to start such a book, with the first paragraphs you're well and truly underway with a gripping story that will have you hooked. He has well established characters which enables him to keep the story moving along without providing a lot of setup and background.

This was a fascinating story, I never had any idea where things were going. There is genuine tension and a lot of fascinating insights into courtroom law and procedure. The author knows how to communicate to the audience without overwhelming with jargon or detail, and it feels believable. He cleverly but respectfully introduced the threads of the looming pandemic.

Overall an excellent book, delivered by an excellent narrator. I particularly like that whilst he changes his voice for the female characters, it is subtle and does not sound like bad pantomime or fallesto.

Pacy courtroom drama

Mickey Haller is a likeable protagonist in this fast moving courtroom drama. I wasn’t that keen on the narrator at first but he grew on me. The novel kept my interest right through with several twists and a background love interest. Entertaining and worth listening.

Disappointing and poor form.

The narrator was enjoyable to listen to, however all that was spoiled when the author revealed his own prejudice and political bias by blatantly advancing his personal views at the expense of loyal readers who do not march to the liberal drumbeat. Mr Connelly has always been one of my go to authors and I have collected all his books. That stops now. I realise that the author could not care less about whether or not I or others are so very disappointed in his decision to include his unnecessary personal political points into his book, which dare I say not only disparaged half of the people of the United States, but the world. You are a very talented author Mr Connelly, but you have lost this reader.
