あらすじ・解説

With a foreword read by the author.

Worldwide, depression will be the single biggest cause of disability in the next 20 years. But treatment for it has not changed much in the last three decades. In the world of psychiatry, time has apparently stood still...until now, with Edward Bullmore's The Inflamed Mind: A Radical New Approach to Depression.

In this game-changing audiobook, University of Cambridge profressor of psychiatry Edward Bullmore reveals the breakthrough new science on the link between depression and inflammation of the body and brain. He explains how, and why, we now know that mental disorders can have their root cause in the immune system and outlines a future revolution in which treatments could be specifically targeted to break the vicious cycles of stress, inflammation, and depression.

The Inflamed Mind goes far beyond the clinic and the lab, representing a whole new way of looking at how mind, brain, and body all work together in a sometimes misguided effort to help us survive in a hostile world. It offers insights into how we could start getting to grips with depression and other mental disorders much more effectively in the future.

I can relate as a suffer

This is what I am going through, after watching my mother, and both of my grandmothers, sister and brother suffer from. It is very important work and the doctors seem to be oblivious oblivious to the connection.
I found the book exciting and understandable and recommended it highly.

A must read

Maybe if more people read this book and were aware of the science behind mental illness, the stigma will go away. There’s no shame in seeing a doctor for your physical health, but we haven’t been able to apply the same logical sense to our brain

this book helps me to remember how important it is to take care of my body and to listen to my body and cleanse it from the inside.

exciting future possibilities

much of the information was entirely plausible to the layperson. and comprehensive to the non-medical professional

Super interesting

A bit technical in parts, but not unmanageable. I read this off of a recommendation, and am really glad I did. It has definitely helped inform me about some finer points of mental illness, and has stoked my fire for learning more and helping the field progress.

To much filler

Too much history not enough science. What's relevant could have been an hour long lecture.

Insightful

This book gives an wide eye view of the lack of wholelistic care available to patients with mental health symptoms and the autoimmune issues that can drive those symptoms. I gives hope and a peek into the direction medicine is going after a history of where we have been.

Best book on depression?

This is some powerful stuff right here. The best book on depression I have read on depression. The only thing that could have made it better, is if it were free ;)

Great last chapter

Remainder a bit anemic. Also a bit light on detail. But important stuff nevertheless, yes.
