あらすじ・解説

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx's definitive and best-selling memoir on drug addiction is now available on audio for the first time, read by Nikki Sixx! This shocking, gripping, and at times darkly hilarious memoir explores Nikki's yearlong war with a vicious heroin addiction. Now more than ever, with opioid addiction ravaging our country and rising by 20 percent in the past year alone, Nikki's story of both his descent into drug-addled decay and subsequent recovery and transition into a rehabilitation advocate is now more relevant than ever.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days - sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers - in a coke and heroin-fueled daze.

The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares the diary entries - some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre - of those dark times.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and surprisingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom - and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

Great to hear Nikki Sixx read his story.

This book will help anyone struggling with any form of drug addiction. The best book I have ever read on the subject. I had told my teens parts of the story. They won't be trying drugs any time soon.

Sixx Review

I was hanging on every word Nikki had to say. I related to everything that he did. I didn't hit "rock bottom." I never became homeless, due to my mother. I guess you could say she was an enabler. She always said, "get out of this house!!" I would just say, "yeah...yeah...yeah".
The Heroin Diaries is truly a great read, especially if you are a drug addict or even a recovering addict. I wish I knew about this book much much sooner. I've been clean for about 10 yrs now.
My previous boyfriend and father of my wonderful son, Liam, died in 2008 due to self infliction. I was truly sad at first. Billy got me onto heroin. He said it was a crushed up pain pill. I suddenly violently threw up my pasta dinner. Well after a month went by I tried it again, only half. I didn't get sick this time. Well, the months became weeks, the weeks became days, then everyday I had to have it.
It's like a blessing in disguise for me that Billy died. If I was still with him I probably would be dead as well or in jail, which is the same as dead with a mouth like mine.
Anyway, thanks for reading some of my story.

Eye opening

Any additional comments?

I've always like Motley Crue's music, but due to being born in the late 80's, I wasn't able to experience them when they were at their height. To me, Crue was Vince and Tommy. This book opened my eyes to the real wheel behind Motley Crue, and the demons that haunted (or hunted) him.

The journey Nikki takes in that year is amazing. I couldn't stop listening.

What an awesome journey!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a true portrait of rock star excesses, as well as how far people who are addicted will drag themselves thorugh the much. As Nikki says... The dying is easy, It's the living that seems impossible when it's time to sober up!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heroin Diaries: 10 Year Anniversary Edition?

Hearing about Nikki coming to my hometown and the things he did there.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

That it was the author.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

What an inspiration. Nikki is one of my all time true hero's. I play bass, and too have kicked "THE" habit. I am forever in his debt. This book has helped me more than I could even explain sitting here writing an e book review!

Gripping

Absolutely stunning that Sixx is still alive. This book is not only for crue fans but for anyone who is struggling with addiction. It pulls you into the underworld, the rawness of Heroin diaries is insane. Would recommend to everyone I know.

God bless you Nikki Sixx!

An ending that will make a macho man cry!!

I'm so grateful that, in the end, you choose to be a father and die of old age. I'm 21 and have always had a stable home life; near zero of my peers can say the same. I see how I was able to avoid total collapse from OTC drugs addiction because of their stable relationship. I also see my peers collapse because they don't have that supportive stability at home. Point being, I greatly appreciate that you have been a father to your kids and I know that you know that they have something few other kids have and how big of a difference that makes in their lives.

Laugh at Misfortune

What did you love best about The Heroin Diaries: 10 Year Anniversary Edition?

I loved the additions to the 10 year version with updates of what happened after the book was initially released

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sikky Nixx, that guy is nuts.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The fact that he was the author as well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Story of a Shooting Star

Any additional comments?

It's the fact Nikki Sixx survived that makes the stories hysterical, amazing, and unbelievable. Had he not, this would have been a tragic tale of slow suicide. If you enjoy stories of redemption, it's hard to beat The Heroin Diaries.

1st edition- a well read, 2nd- a awesome audible!

I really dislike reading but I love Nikki Sixx. My brother brought me the book and said "trust me and read it!" I was in my mid 30's and hadn't read a book since high school. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in less than a week.
Who would have known Nikki was going through this? I didn't and I also didn't think anybody could survive with such a crazy lifestyle.
I was estacted when I heard about the 10th anniversary edition and since we have bitchen apps that can read to us now...even better, Nikki can read to me! I might even listen to it again.

What can I say...

...but wonderful! I had already read the original but the audio brings those words to life when read by Nikki himself. Plenty of new material too. The epilogue was really moving on so many levels: his intelligence, his determination, his search to contribute and not least his rallying cry for the true rock star in an age of blah, blah, blah (and that’s the sober Nikki talking). I’d say this would appeal to those who maybe aren’t Sixx fans sufficiently to want to read the book too. The male voice actor who did the other male characters was great: his Tommy, Vince and Slash were uncannily good. His English accents, hmm, okay! The female was pretty awful: a strange, shrill, nasal delivery that barely changed person to person. The one thing that I didn’t like was her delivery.

Don’t waste your credit

Be Prepared to not like Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx is not a likeable person even when he gets sober he’s not a person I’d want to hang out with
I understand that addicts are selfish people who blame everyone else for their problems but
Nikki Sixx doesn’t understand that his problems start and end with himself and until he understands that I doubt he will stay sober
There is only so much time that you can listen to him whining about his childhood not making enough money and his Constant jealousy of other bands who have more talent than him
The female voice reading the female parts is incredible annoying her attempts to do different voices for different people are awful
I really wouldn’t waste your credit because all you are going to learn is addicts will do anything for that next fix and you already know that

I loved it!

I wanted to understand more about the perspective of a drug addict. About the way they think and why are they living their life that way. This was very heplful for me since I didn't have much exposure to a world of drugs and rock n' roll. Thank you for writing the book!

Incredible Story with a Very Positive Message

Nikki Sixx tells a very honest and open story with many of his peers telling us how much of a difficult and spiteful person he used to be. The 10year anniversary edition adds a lot to the story on how Nikki has turned his life around even after Motley Crue finished.

The story is read incredibly well by Nikki and you can feel the emotion in his voice as he relives the Heroin Diaries.

Loved every second of this story!

Respect to Mick Marrs - the only decent Crue member!

I’m a Crue fan and went to see them a few times in the 80’s, so was intrigued to hear Nikki’s account. Nothing really shocked me accept the level of his depression, and I feel sad that no one at the time gave him any support.

I’m interested in addiction and rehabilitation, so have been going through a lot of books on the topic and although I enjoyed this, I much prefer stories of normal families who get sucked into the awful world of addiction as they are far more relatable. You really learn something from Nic/David Sheff’s accounts as you realise with horror that this could easily happen to your family. A rock star’s debauchery is pretty much a standardised formula and is far removed from normal life. And they all predictably clean their act up once they hit middle age (if they make it that far).

I knew it went on, but now I’m in my 40’s I find the disposable treatment of women really appalling, but even more so, how there always seemed to be a bus load of girls ready and willing to be abused. I wondered how many people shared STD’s after all the germs flying around.

I have a new respect for Mick Marrs tho, he was the only one of the four who wasn’t a complete arsehole. I think we knew that at the time but he always came across as the oddball.

And finally, there must’ve been a LOT of very high sewer rats in LA in 1987!

Book

This was amazing. I absolutely loved this book and I finished it in like 2 days because I was soo obsessed with it. It made me cry and laugh but this is an amazing life lesson because many people think that just because your famous and you are rich you are doing well when in reality you are suffering. Seriously amazing.

interesting listen for those in active addiction..

as a struggling heroin/speedball addict in and out of recovery I found the book interesting, inspirational and yet also triggering - it reminded me of what I need to do in terms of seeking and asking for help and keeping up with regular attendance and work in NA (narcotics anonymous), and the importance of honesty - both within myself and with the ppl in my life, esp my family and the recovering addicts within NA. Yet it also made me yearn for the rush of shooting speedballs and the sick fascination and purpose found in all consuming hard drug abuse. And so while having shot up a few big speedballs over the last 2 days I've also reattended NA and plan to throw myself back into step work and speak honestly with my sponsor once I run out of drugs and money tomorrow.

Best book ever.

Wow. This was the best audiobook i’ve ever listened to. I laughed, I cried, many emotions. I’m only very young, 14, but this touched my heart and made me realise that drugs and alcohol aren’t the solution to problems and that you can have fun without them - Liv ❤️

raw & real

I was never the biggest Motley fan, more into rhcp/g n r/led zeppelin etc. But! This book was freakin incredible, and even better for listening to the man himself Sixx read it to you. Don't forget that you are listening to his own diary entries so it's not in typical flowing style, but I would listen to him as I walked around my serene little city in NZ and marvel at the things hes lived and literally died through. What a legend, definitely a great experience for anyone, but perhaps people dealing with addictions because as you hear his own words that he penned during the depths of his addictions, and how he pulled through you gotta know there's hope for anyone.
My only critique is the womans voice, yeesh. I know kiwi chicks don't have the same preppy tones as Americans but yeah... it was a struggle to listen to her parts, which was annoying because they were covering his mothers and his serious ex-partner who added a lot of value. Still, it was awesome, would recommend it to a lot of people.
