Despite the danger, Offred learns to navigate the intimate secrets of those who control her every move, risking her life in breaking the rules in hopes of ending this oppression.

結果--> 衝撃的に面白く、こんな物語を書いた現在79歳のMargaret Atwood氏を今更ながら尊敬。なぜもっと早く出会わなかったんだろう。
印象に残っているのは、主人公が日本人観光客とを見て「うらやましい」と思うところ。なんという皮肉、というか、意地悪。この本が出たのは1985年ということ。最近は世界で活躍する日本人女性も増えてきたけれど、1985年なら、まだまだ「男性に従順に生きていくしかないかわいそうな国の人」というイメージだったはず。そんな日本人に「幸せですか？」と質問されてしまうアメリカ人。欧米人読者にとってこれ以上の屈辱ってあっただろうか。
また最後のHistorical Noteは、「これってなに？」と聞き始めたものの、「おお、そういうことか」とまたさらに Atwood氏の頭の良さにひれ伏す思いでした。
Claire Danesのナレーションも聞きやすく、グッド。ずっとクレアが主人公であると想像して聞いていました。
