Keats commenced writing his epic poem, Hyperion, in 1818 and ceased working on it in the spring of 1819. He said that he gave the project up for having "too many Miltonic inversions." The unfinished poem, which ceases in the middle of the third canto, was published in 1820. The narrative is based on the Titanomachia, or War of the Titans, and describes the aftermath of their fall to the Olympian Gods.

"The Little Prince" is a long story that in the format of books has beaten sales records in the world and in all languages ​​since 1943, when it was first published in French. 日露戦争の最中に温泉地を訪れた青年画家を通して、 芸術のあり方を模索した初期の代表作 『草枕』は明治39年（1906年）に発表された熊本県玉名市小天（ルビ：おあま）温泉を舞台にした中編小説であり、『吾輩は猫である』『坊っちゃん』と並ぶ初期の代表作。 「智に働けば角（かど）が立つ。情に棹（さお）させば流される。意地を通せば窮屈だ。兎角（とかく）に人の世は住みにくい。」という書き出しで有名だが、劇的な物語の展開があるわけではない。 美とは何か、憐れとは何か―― 主人公である青年画家が東京からの旅の途中、滞在した温泉宿で出会った謎めいた女性・那美に出会い、謎めいた彼女の魅力や、戦争によって揺れていく人の暮しを描写していく。 世塵から離れた風光明媚な温泉地を舞台に、西欧文明への批判を込めて、漱石自身の芸術論を主人公の長い独白として織り交ぜていると言われる。豊かな語彙と文章で、絵画的に詩情あふれる世界を落ち着いた朗読で収録している。

青春を戦争の渦中に過ごした若い女性の、くやしさと、それゆえの、未来への夢。スパッと歯切れのいい言葉が断言的に出てくる、主張のある詩、論理の詩。ときには初々しく震え、またときには凛として顔を上げる。素直な表現で、人を励まし奮い立たせてくれる、「現代詩の長女」茨木のり子のエッセンス。(対談=大岡信、解説=小池昌代)
