Julie Cross has built the perfect life for herself as the host of the TV show Katharsis, where celebrities and VIP guests are invited to bare their souls, revealing their darkest traumas. Julie also has an adoring husband, a teenage daughter, and a brilliant career as a successful therapist. Everything is under control. Everything is perfect.

Until one day, an anonymous note changes her life.

Four playing cards, four jacks: a deadly hand that threatens to bring it all crashing down. Someone knows. Someone remembers that cursed summer in Tuscany, twenty years ago. Julie was eighteen and had her whole future ahead of her when she and Jenny – her best friend back then, a rebellious free spirit now turned hermit amid the icy landscapes of Norway – met two boys, Jacopo and John.

That holiday ended in tragedy, and Julie buried the secret together with her memories.

But now someone wants revenge. Someone is hunting her down, playing games with her mind, forcing her to relive every detail of those cursed days.

Who is blackmailing her? Are Jacopo and John still alive? And what really happened that night?

To discover the identity of her tormentor, Julie is forced to go back in time, face the shadows she has tried so hard to erase, and return to the places of that fateful summer. Amid troubled love affairs, broken friendships, and truths impossible to confess, Julie finds out that the past cannot be buried forever.

And that every secret comes at a price.

So, will she finally achieve her catharsis? Or will the truth destroy her?
