Georgia Summers
Caspian Verne is destined for greatness: to fulfil his grandmother's ambitions by joining the formidable order of scholars who form the bridge between two worlds. But the price for admittance is high - and one he's not willing to pay.
Instead, he's been seeking another path, one that could upend his grandmother's machinations for good. There are rumours of a dormant astral: a godlike being said to grant a powerful favour to those who find him. With this in hand, Caspian can carve his own destiny and finally be free.
Yet as time runs out, Caspian finds himself at the mercy of Mira, a mysterious stranger with a world-walking gift of her own. Desperate, he makes a bargain he has no intention of keeping: together, they will find the astral and split the favour between them.
As Caspian and Mira hunt the astral across worlds, they discover that not all doors are meant to be opened. His grandmother has made a terrible bargain of her own. And something dark is stalking the scholars . . .©2027 Georgia Summers (P)2027 Hodder & Stoughton Limited

Georgia Summers's magical bookshop is my new favorite place. It may be fraught and deadly, and even a little seedy - as flawed as Cassandra Fairfax, its hesitant new owner - but the mystery and danger are part of its charm. The Bookshop Below is a delicious read, I loved every second of it, but can it please be real?
Steeped in bookish magic and infused with the comfort and terror of a favourite tragic fairytale, The Bookshop Below is darkly whimsical and utterly heartwrenching
Rich, dark and romantic, The Bookshop Below is a must read for everyone who believes in the magic of books
Mesmerizing and magical! Once you enter this remarkable bookshop, you won't want to leave! The world Georgia Summers creates and the story she weaves is fascinating, mysterious, dangerous, and heart-breaking
A story as darkly wondrous as midnight. Summers brilliantly takes our yearning to open doors to magical new worlds, and twists it into a seductively vicious dream of darkness, blood, and winged horrors. When monsters must be satiated, there is no escaping the choices between love and betrayal; survival and sacrifice. Enthralling to the last page
The City of Stardust opens with a haunting prologue that weaves as enchanting a spell as any of the terrible and wonderful magic in the book, and it just gets better from there. Summers' debut is a dark, gorgeous tale of curses, gods and monsters, with the love and loyalty of family at its heart
There's a young girl fighting an ancient family curse, a tremendously chilly villain, and the gothicky atmosphere of corridors and libraries is invigorated by a sweeping trans-continental narrative. Want more? How about monsters, magic, a quest and a mystery? A hugely promising debut; beautifully written as well
A spellbinding and mesmerising tale intricately crafted with writing that glitters. The City of Stardust is like reading V. E. Schwab for the first time - and it's a story that will stay with me for years to come
