Fifteen-year-old sea nymph Alissa has a special talent for sea witchery, taking after her mother. Alissa’s mum wrote the most enchanting spellbooks for their family bookhop, The Tidebound Bookshop, which takes the shape of a giant pearlescent clamshell beneath the sea, and Alissa plans to continue her mother’s legacy.

But Alissa’s magic is fading – she has failed the first trial for the Atlantica Academy for Sea Witches, and only has one more shot. To make things worse, her dad is thinking of selling the bookshop, which has been closed since Alissa’s mum died. Alissa asks Niven, the cute boy-next-door, to help with her plans for a grand reopening – filling the bookshop with magical books from every world. Niven agrees to help Alissa with her magic in secret, and as they get the bookshop in order, it’s obvious to everyone except Alissa that he’s had a massive crush on her for years.

Can Alissa find her lost magic in time to save the bookshop, and recognise Niven’s true feelings for her?
