Alive with the wild sparkling of snow-covered trees, visited by ephemeral moose, and crackling with the fire of northern spirit, Tales from Alberta Muskeg Country is an electrifying and truly Canadian debut.
Echoing with the wonder of the vast wilderness of northern Alberta, this collection of short stories uses human relationships with nature to powerfully evoke our most deeply held and tender feelings. A man starts his truck in the frigid dark of a northern morning, lonely for his estranged children but feeling connected to them through the stars. A young woman, newly transplanted to High Prairie, receives shocking news about her absent boyfriend while watching the morning news. A city-dwelling woman goes on an epic journey to find her long-lost brother, finding herself navigating the muskeg in more ways than she could have ever anticipated.
A must-listen for lovers of Canadiana and all northern hearts, Tales from Alberta Muskeg Country tells stories that are at once recognizable and unique, comforting and disconcerting, joyous and full of grief. Above all, these are tales of survival in the harshest of emotional wilderness.
