"Jimmy treated Duncroft like a paedophile sweet shop,” said survivor Toni Townsend. “He used to take his pick of the mix.”
As Jimmy Savile parked his Rolls Royce outside of the big old stately home that was Duncroft Approved School, the teenage girls flocked to the door to welcome the celebrity. Given his own bedroom and free reign of the premises, Savile would enter the girls bedrooms while they were undressing, and manipulate them into further assaults in his luxury vehicle.
A police investigation confirmed that 22 Duncroft girls were assaulted. The headmistress had disregarded their claims and categorised the girls as delinquents.
In this memoir, ex-Duncroft attendee and survivor of Savile, Sheila Anne Terry-Bailey, tells her harrowing story for the first time. “Who lets a 42 year-old-man stay in a home with 14-, 15-, and 16-year-old girls?” is one of the many questions that Sheila raises.
Sheila details the methods that Savile employed to prey on her and the other schoolgirls, and she takes us through the heart-breaking decades of unresolved trauma that she personally suffered as a result of Savile’s monstrous actions.
