His accounts are heartwrenching, uplifting, and hilarious all at once. He details his father’s battles against Nazi forces with a price on his head, as well as his own experience as a soldier as Yugoslavia disintegrated in the 1990s, leaving Vukosavovic as a man without a country. His vignettes paint scenes of Montenegrin weddings where gunplay is expected, childhood beach soccer tournaments, and fishing contests on the Adriatic coast, white-knuckle car chases across an African desert, as well as his quest to build a new life for his family in America.
