After her perilous escape from the Janusians, Victoria Anetti is trying to live the normal life she always wanted.

But she can't ignore what she learned during her capture: thanks to a sample of her blood, the Janusians can take away Mahjin abilities. It's a threat to the Mahjin and the Colonies, but a thread of hope for Victoria. Not only can she live a normal life, but she can also be normal, free of the superhuman abilities she never wanted to inherit.
On their next mission, Victoria and her crew stumble upon a Janusian gunship with a lone crewmember: Lieutenant Karim, the woman who captured Victoria on her mother's behalf. With no memories of her defection, Karim requests asylum aboard the Robber Barron. But her blank mind holds deadly secrets: the Janusians' goal to neutralize the Mahjin has changed.
