The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face. It is a novel both immediate and impactful, desperate and hopeful in equal measure, and it is one of the most powerful and original books on climate change ever written.

Ready Player One was lightening in a bottle
This follow up to Ready Player One felt generic. It both felt like it was affected by the movie version of RP1 but also felt like the story had been thought about before the movie had been in production.
Ready Player Two didn’t go where I thought it would go, but I also didn’t like how generic the story felt. It felt like they could directly adapt this in a movie version but that isn’t a good thing. If you boiled the book down to its events, it could have been one third shorter.
The characters didn’t feel like they were the same characters from RP1. The choices they made didn’t feel like the choice of those from the first book. Art3mis was contradictory and Parzival was a down right A hole, and the swearing is this book was not warranted. I don’t mind swearing but the amount of it felt forced.
The performance saved the book for me from turning it off.
I didn’t like Cline’s second book Armada because it felt like this. You’ve heard this story played over countless times. You could chalk it up to Ready Player Two doing what is does with pop culture but The thing I loved about RP1 was that it was a unique story told with pop culture as a nice side plate.

Okay start, questionable villain, mediocre middle and brilliant ending!
The beginning was a bit depressing and stretched out, leaving the main quests squeezed. The villain was a bit questionable. The quests were pretty cool, just like listening to some video game quests that were very vivid. Will Wheaton is my hero with the voice of an angel. The ending was fantastic.

In this day and age of including everyone
I was really excited when i heard there was going to be a ready player 2. So I preordered it and listened to it immediately when it was delivered. I have to say I enjoyed most of the book. Some parts though seemed really forced. The thing that threw me off a lot was the feeling that the story was trying to please everyone or include everyone to the point that it was jarring. It was missing the many iconic geek culture and pop culture throwbacks like the first book, which i loved and listened to many many times. I am a child of the 80s so i loved the many references in ready player two. But I guess the bar was set really high in the first book. Once again Will Wheaton did an excellent job. Please give this book a read if you liked the first one, as it ties up many loose ends. Overall I recommend getting this book if you need a ready player one fix.

Can't wait for the Snyder Cut
I really liked most of it, but some parts of the quest were really long, and some others felt too short. The "let's talk about every minority ever" felt a little forced , and it didn't work very well, lot's of offended haters around the globe. Next time, make it about the original minority this book was about, the gamers and geeks. Can't wait for the Low Five spin-off, or the Arcadia one.

Great listen. A good sequel.
The plot is laid on pretty thick early on, so it becomes quite easy to piece together exactly what is going to happen.
The charm of the first book is somewhat missing from this one. It still has a charm or its own. The writing seems fairly stripped back and rather straight forward, but it is still a very entertaining listen/ read.
if you are a fan of the first novel you should still love this one also.

Missing the charm and nostalgia from the 1st book
Some of the conflicts felt a bit forced and pacing is quite bad. I managed to go through and enjoy RP1 fairly smoothly, even during the re-reads. I struggled to finish this one. I've finally finished it and I don't plan to revisiting again.
*spoilers*
I rather it follows a new group's adventure, Low-five. It is Ready Player "Two".

I'll always love listening to Wil
Sure, it's a rehash of the first book. I loved the first book though! And the ending is much better this time round. Wil Wheaton is a great narrator as well. The only bit that dragged was the Prince bit. Otherwise, I'm ready player 3 already!

Game Over
This book should not have been written. Ernest Cline managed to find a niche with the first book and relied heavily on nostalgia for the eighties to guide people through the story. This feels just like a cash-in and really does expose Cline's limitations as a storyteller and writer.

Heartbreaking to have waited so long for this!
I’m absolutely gutted. After waiting many years for the sequel to one of my favourite audiobooks I cannot believe how awful this was! Just awful!
The first book was full of excitement and was fun to listen to and enjoy but this... awful! It’s dreary, it’s dark and it’s not enjoyable at all!
Most pop culture references were crowbarred in and utterly lifeless compared to the first book and there is little celebration for anything other than absolute neche references and don’t even get me started on what seemed like TWO HOURS of Prince world!!
The ending was rushed and the author should be ashamed of such awful descriptions of the final scenes, especially after so much time wasted on Prince the whole ending was rushed and lifeless!
Steven Spielberg won’t be wasting his time with this sequel and nor should you!
If Will Weaton hadn’t narrated this I’d have returned it after the first chapter, he is the only thing good about this book and his narration is excellent with the exception of his female British accent and pronouncing one of the characters names differently from the first book which was mildly irritating!
Listen to the first on repeat instead, that was a masterpiece!
I cannot believe what I just wrote, I’m heartbroken after such a long wait and such high hopes!

Seems likes a fan fiction pastiche of the original
I should say first off that I loved Ready player one, a great 80s geekfest of a novel that I consumed over three days.
In this sequel Cline has tried to pick up where he left off, but something has changed, and it does not work. The first three chapters are especially frustrating, being endlessly wordy exposition, that come across as a pastiche of the original, and I almost gave up at this point.
I persevered, and it does pick up a little after these early chapters, but for me at least, just does not recapture the joy of the original. The characters are less likable, the writing more plodding, the pop culture references ever more contrived.

really disappointing
I adored Ready Player One, and have been looking forward to Ready Player Two ever since it was announced. I am so disappointed; everything that made the original special has gone. Characters personalities have completely changed, are completely 2d, and rely on agendas (albeit admirable) to define their personality. I find it difficult to get excited about an adventure, when even the main character isn't. Wil Wheaton is excellent as always, but unfortunately even his brilliant performance isn't enough to save the story or spark much enjoyment. Gutted.

The sequel we didn’t need.
I liked the first book. It was entertaining and fun. Geeky in a good and positive way. The sequel is self-indulgent and extremely dull. Tediously dull. A severe disappointment with a clumsy and uninspired plot. Wheaton does a good job but is hampered by poor material. This is derivative and listless.

I don't know what Ernest Cline was thinking, but this is a terrible sequel.
The story is boring and the characters that we all know and lovehave all changed.
I looked forward to this book, but what a disappointment. It was so dull I nearly gave up a number of times.
Even the title doesn't make sense.
I think I'll stick with Ready Player One.

Yeah ... ummm can I get my quarter back?
First book was awesome.
This book is different and sadly shoves the authors views down your throat over and over again.
I'm neutral here and peoples lifestyles are their own, but in-between the good stuff in this book you are brow beaten by the author through the characters.
But maybe some people like that. Anyways it lost its flare and the thrill of the first book.
Read it and decide for yourself.

Disappointed.
Firstly I want to say that "Ready Player One" is one of my all time favorite books. So I was really excited for this book to come out.
My excitement soon turned to disappointment upon getting into the first couple of hours.
The story felt forced and like it was trying was too hard. If you really enjoy "Stranger Things" season 1 and then felt the total let down of season 2, it's much the same.
I actually found myself wanting to skip though long winded over detailed, trying way too hard to be retro parts of the book.
I'm about as disappointed in this book as I was the movie adaptation of the first book.

A good story with some interesting ideas. Not nearly as good as the first book. The main disappointment was the pointless virtue signalling force feeding you at every opportunity. Less wokeness needed and more focus on telling a great sci-fi adventure.

“Well, that’s just lazy writing” ~ Deadpool
Ready Player One was amazing. I read it 4 times and was still engaged.
I was so excited about the movie and although not as good as the book (let’s face it, they never are), it was still a fun piece of entertainment for what it was.
When I first saw that this 2nd book was in the making, I was excited. The anticipation, the thrill of another adventure… then nothing. This was a big serving of boredom and disappointment.
It was a weak story that was poorly written. The middle of the book is padded with so much superfluous detail that I forgot where the characters were, what they needed to do and where the story was heading.
This felt like a ‘Netflix adaptation’ of RP1…if you know what I mean.
The story had so much potential but nearly everything that was cool and engaging about RP1 is missing here.
If someone out there has a ‘Zemeckis Cube’, can you please use it and turn back my time to make me forget that I have read this book.

It’s still good despite a couple of things
If you’ve read and loved the first book then you should read this one. The first book was so good that many people believed it would be impossible for this one to meet expectations... they were right BUT it’s still good. I recommend you fast forward chapters 21, 22 and half of 23. Those chapters contain a music playing & singing battle with Prince (I’m spoiling nothing here). Yes that’s right 2.5 chapters on Prince ffs! Two things should never happen again... under no circumstances should Will Wheaton attempt a British accent, nor should anyone write a multi chapter battle against different incarnations of Prince. Anyway despite those two small things, the rest of the book was good fun. Read it.

not what i was expecting but ok
Wade is a sook he complains about everything being to hard, him not being good enough, life, being rich, it is constantly throughout every chapter. This made it hard to get through i stopped listening 2hours away from the end because i just couldn't but then i knew i had to finish it just ao i could talk to people about it.
the first book was a 90/100
this book is a 50/100
Good but unnecessary to listen to if you didn't enjoy the first.
