I will never forget the day Pope Francis gave his first address to the world. At that time, I had not eaten for three days because I had no money. It was around 9:00 PM in Tanzania when white smoke rose from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, signaling that a new Pope had been chosen.

I sat alone in my living room, watching television and waiting to hear the first words of the new Holy Father from St. Peter's Square. When Pope Francis appeared and began giving his blessing, I placed my hand on the television screen over his image and quietly said, "I am hungry." Shortly after Pope Francis finished speaking, I received an unexpected phone call from my cousin. He asked me to do some work for him on Thursday, March 14, 2013, and promised to send me money in advance. That very night, I received enough money to buy food.

To many people, this may seem like a coincidence. To me, it was a miracle. At one of the lowest moments of my life, help arrived immediately after I prayed and received Pope Francis' blessing. It is a moment I have carried in my heart ever since.
