During the Reconstruction period following the Civil War

Pad's only hope for escape is a group of geriatrics, children, and a confederate veteran gunslinger he has befriended over his two years as West's slave. Dan Dean, the gunslinger, is desperately trying to redeem himself from the sins of his past.
