Dr. Jim was an ER physician, surgeon, counselor, ambulance driver, obstetrician, stand-in veterinarian, administrator, and family doctor, from 1954 to 1987. Dr. Jim handled mountain-climbing tragedies, bear maulings, patients with severe psychological challenges, and even an outbreak of diphtheria. The stories were as unique as this vast remote area. By the time he retired, Dr. Jim's vital work at mission-affiliated Faith Hospital in Glennallen was applauded by several of Alaska's leaders.
