Written by two NHS doctors with lived experience. We wrote this book because we kept having the same conversation, a patient would sit down, say "I think I might be autistic" or "I think I have ADHD," and we had almost nothing from medical school to help us or them apart from doing a referral letter. So we realised that we need better information to guide our consults. From research, professional experience and from our patients. This is for GPs, nurses, paramedics, therapists, anyone who sees patients and wants to get this right and needs information at their fingertips. But it's also for anyone who is neurodivergent, loves someone who is, or has ever felt like the healthcare system is impossible to navigate. It's also designed for those who need help but don't want a label, those who are diagnosed but choose to manage without or can't take medication.

For those who have additional problems associated with neurodivergence and wonder if it's all connected somehow. It's not a textbook you use once and shelve. You don't have to listen to it start to finish; take a chapter that interests you and start there. This book is the one you keep ready for when you've got ten minutes and a patient who needs you to understand. It includes real stories. Practical guidance. NHS pathways. This book offers clear, practical strategies for neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed healthcare. Structured across 30 chapters in three parts: Neurobiological Foundations, Clinical Care, and Practice and Systems. It covers common presentations across the lifespan, consultation strategies that work within 10-minute appointments, and practical ways to build neurodiversity-competent primary care services that support clinicians, patients, and healthcare systems.
