The year is 2001, and Evan Molina's alternative rock band has never been more successful. At the end of Hooked on Hemoglobin's first national tour, Evan and his bandmate, Rick Ortiz, are ready to leave their childhood homes and begin their life together as a couple. The move, however, only serves to alienate Evan from Rick as anticipation for their sophomore album's performance mounts.

In a genre where authenticity is king, Evan's greatest challenge becomes balancing mainstream appeal with maintaining his artistic vision. Likewise, his struggles with self-worth and mental health create a wedge between the previously inseparable pair. While touring with HOH, fellow musician Lacey Navarro offers an unconventional solution to Rick and Evan's intimacy issues.

Where Rick jumps to solve Evan's problems, Lacey listens and validates his worries. Her encouragement inspires Evan to take control of his life in ways that call into question Rick's role as his partner in both music and life.
