In December 1872, a ship was discovered in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship’s sails were raised and it was in a seaworthy condition. Yet it appeared to be bobbing quite strangely rather than sailing. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the crew of the ship was missing. There was no sign of a struggle and the cargo had not been ransacked. What became of the crew has remained one of the sea’s greatest mysteries for over 100 years.

The disappearance of the crew of the Mary Celeste, in the Atlantic Ocean, in 1872, has been one of the more puzzling maritime mysteries of the past few centuries. Actor David Whiteley's voice is precise and dramatic here as he outlines the strange story, its popularity via Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictionalized version, and the many explanations that have been offered for the vanishing of the crew. Overall, an enjoyable and even-handed introduction to the mingling of fact and fiction that surrounds this odd tale.
