Avery Langdon comes off as an ordinary, stubborn girl, but she has a dark secret she keeps from everyone: She moonlights as a vampire hunter. One night after a successful hunt, Avery meets a charming, good-looking man at a bar. Finally, she thinks her horrible luck with men might be turning around. That is until she realizes that he is one of the creatures she is destined to hate: a vampire. She comes to find that she can't slay someone who kills his own kind and drinks from blood bags, but can she ever trust him?

Talon Campbell is over 300 years old and has done some pretty horrid things in his life, but the latter part was spent seeking redemption. He believes Avery could be the one to help him, to be his light as he is forced to hide in perpetual shadow. He soon finds he would do anything she wishes, even let her die. But as protecting her has become his new mission, he would never let it come to that. 

An ancient evil has awakened, the first vampire: Cain. He's gathering followers and plans to complete a curse he set on the Langdons long ago. Avery and Talon must learn to work together, along with a slayer faction called The Order, to stop a once powerful vampire from gaining his full strength back.
