あらすじ・解説

Stephanie Plum faces the toughest puzzle of her career in the 25th entry in Janet Evanovich's number one New York Times best-selling series.

There's nothing like a good deli, and the Red River Deli in Trenton is one of the best. World-famous for its pastrami, cole slaw, and for its disappearing managers. Over the last month, three have vanished from the face of the earth, and the only clue in each case is one shoe that's been left behind. The police are baffled. Lula is convinced that it's a case of alien abduction. Whatever it is, they'd better figure out what's going on before they lose their new manager, Ms. Stephanie Plum.

I waited for this???

I LOVE Stephanie and the gang, but this story was underwhelming. It went nowhere and didn’t close very well. I still don’t get the plot after I’ve finished the book. Ms King’s performance was,as always, magnificent. I just hope 26 gets back to the lively and funny story line we all adore.

Who is the ghost writer for Janet Evanovich???

I think either Janet has found a ghost writer or she wants to end this series by destroying it. The story line is terrible, most of the characters are not consistent with other books and why do we have to have paranormal in a series that is supposed to be a humorous mystery series????? I think this series has come to its end - and it had been great.

Still Funny But the Three Way Romance Is Tiresome

This is the 25th book and I’ve read them all along with every other book written by Evanovich so I am a fan. Having said that, the Ranger/Morelli/Plum dynamic is wearing thin. She’s old enough to make up her mind and choose Morelli and get on with it. The story line would have to change but that’s growth. Anyway, this was a funny book with all the new additions of working in the deli after having the managers disappear leaving only one shoe behind. She and Lula have a time with sandwiches, chickens, and kidnapping cats just to get a woman rebonded but it works. The humor is still funny. Still can’t figure out the guy who disappears in a puff of smoke. Hard to keep a lengthy series fresh but Evanovich is doing okay. Would like to see more of Gramma Masser and it sounds like we will. I listened on Audible and love the narrator, Lorelei King. She is Stephanie Plum.

Better than #24 … but not much

I kept hoping that "Hardcore Twenty Four" was a fluke in its disappointment, but" Look Alive Twenty Five" was not much better. (At least Diesel wasn't in it … but Wolf, another magical character from the lower quality "between the Plums" books was in this. Actually, he could have been left out and it wouldn't have changed the storyline in any noticeable way.} I have been a rabid Stephanie Plum fan and have read and listened to all the previous books in this series. Janet Evanovich has given me many, many hours of laughter (often laugh out loud laughter) and enjoyment that I hate to be giving her a bad review. It makes me feel disloyal. But I kept falling asleep and starting over. Even the normally outstanding professionalism of narrator Lorelei King couldn't save this one. This is more than a book too far, it is two books too far. I guess it is time to put an end to Stephanie, the bumbling bounty hunter.

Same boring story

What used to be fresh and fun is totally formulaic. Same lines used again and again. Lula is ridiculous, Stephanie has no backbone. Time to find a new series.

I'm done...

My first review after purchasing well over 100+ audible books, as well as over 100+ Kindles. Sadly enough, I'm done with the series as well as the book :-( I am so sorry Ms. Evanovich. I've hung in there for 25 novels, looking forward to each adventure with Stephanie, my alter ego. I hesitated last year, bought the book, hesitated again this year, bought the audible...no more. I'm asking Amazon to accept it as my first return. The 8th-grade locker room humor (a thong disappearing up Lulu's hoohaa when she bends over in a restaurant) is more than I can enjoy. Evanovich can and has done better than that. However, I'm still enjoying her spinoffs :-)

Disappointed

I loved the beginning of this series and the potential it had. Now, I keep buying the stories with the hope something will progress or change...it really hasn’t. I found the story to be lackluster and redundant. I’m unfortunately going to say it, but I’m disappointed and sad. Although the story leaves with a twist, I don’t doubt I will be rushing to buy the next. The only positive is Lorelei King’s consistent delivery.

If you like Stephanie Plum you will like this.

Sometimes we just need slap stick. The later Stephanie Plums are just written for fun. They may be closer to the Three Stooges than the Marx Brothers, but in the end they entertain. I do not mind the Cross Overs. These books are romantic comedies and as such they are as much a fantasy as the paranormal fantasy. So why not have a few Unmentionables. I love the gentle sarcasm Janet Evanovich throws into her stories. Heck I even like the broad comedy. Again sometimes we need a break from reality. These days silly does it for me.

Arrested development

Wondering if Janet Evanovich has an end-game in mind for this series? The last few books haven't been great and the characters are becoming fairly predictable and uninteresting. Too bad because I used to really enjoy this series.
