The Later Tudors is a fascinating period of study, and who better to lead us through the series than Oxford Historian Dr Glyn Redworth, an early modern history specialist, and Chief History A Level Examiner Nick Fellows? This audio guide provides all the detail required for those taking the Later Tudors for History A Level, with Glyn Redworth providing academic insights across some of the key topics required.
The series shows how potentially weak the Tudors' grasp on power was. The reign of the Edward VI was, in fact, to leave the country in the hands of a child, or rather the noblemen who surrounded him. This was followed by the first female monarch in English history, Mary I, who threatened the independence of the kingdom by risking marriage with a foreign prince and the reintroduction of Catholicism. Even the reign of Elizabeth was not without its risks, as the young queen struggled to impose her will on evangelical councillors who were determined that nothing should prevent the reimposition of their brand of Protestantism.
- The stability of the monarchy
- Religious changes
- Rebellion and unrest
In the Enquiry element, the focus will be on the critical use of evidence in investigating and assessing historical questions, problems and issues.
