あらすじ・解説

Innocent is the shocking true story of little Molly and Kit, siblings, aged three years and 18 months, who are brought into care as an emergency after suffering non-accidental injuries.

Aneta and Filip, the children’s parents, are distraught when their children are taken into care. Aneta maintains she is innocent of harming them, while Filip appears bewildered and out of his depth. It’s true the family has never come to the attention of the social services before, and little Kit and Molly appear to have been well looked after, but Kit has a broken arm and bruises on his face. Could it be they were a result of a genuine accident, as Aneta is claiming?

Both children become sick with a mysterious illness while experienced foster carer Cathy is looking after them. Very worried, she asks for more hospital tests to be done. They’ve already had a lot. When Cathy’s daughter, Lucy, becomes ill too she believes she has found the cause of Kit and Molly’s illness, and the parents aren’t to blame. However, nothing could be further from the truth, and what comes to light is far more sinister and shocking.

Best Book I Have Ever Read.

I loved this book. The author kept me wanting to hear more. This is the first book that I have listened to from beginning to end in one sitting.

Not a happy ending

If you’re looking for a book about foster care with a happy ending that leaves you feeling content, then this is not the book for you.
For a foster care book like that go download and read something by Maggie Hartley.

Not for me

I have read many Cathy Glass books. This was my least favorite as she appeared to ignore many obvious signs that she, as just as an intelligent person, should have figured out much earlier. This led me to wonder if it was done deliberately to prolong the book or to create more drama. Either way it just didn’t work for me.

Narrator a real problem, see SPOILER

I wasn’t as settled with the ending as I’d hoped to be. But, I suppose that is reality.

The narrator is just not helping these. She’ll read something with a stern voice in a senate e that says “she said gently” or a loud voice when the book reads “he said quirky”. And she reads Cathy as apologetic, sort of frantic, and a bit angry or aggressive when I don’t feel the story shows is that. Also, some of her male voices sound doofy. Just a real turnoff all around.

What a heartbreaking story!

My heart goes out to Cathy Glass and her family for everything they do! I for a short period started to feel badly for the father till I reached the end! He in my eyes was just as heartless and immature as his wife! When you hear these stories they just break your heart! You know that saying Like when you are on a telephone call that you just wanted to reach through the phone and strangle someone well I wish I could have reached into the book and Knocked the daylights out of that father and mother for being so inconsiderate to the woman that Chuck care of their Children in a time of need! You can add the Judge to that too for the ignorant decision he made and can only pray that the kids grow up healthy happy and SAFELY! GOD BLESS YOU CATHY GLASS

Outstanding

Ms Glass’s books never disappoint me. From the very first word to the very last line she draws you in so you feel that you are apart of her family. She does the kind of work that too many people could not. You can feel the love in her writings from the moment she first hears about the child until her very last second with them. Of all her books this set of parents were the cruelest. She loved their kids took care of them discovered what was happening which caused the mother to get the help she needed. Well done Cathy

FDIA

I had never heard the term F DIA, or Facticious Disorder Imposed on Another, however when the story began I quickly suspected that the parents of the children involved, or one of the parents of the children involved, was causing these children to be sick. The term that I knew was Munchausen's by Proxy. As it turned out, these children's mom, Anita, because of her own abuse as a child had developed a mental illness that caused her to crave attention so much so that she chose to make her children sick. In this way, she could take them to the hospital and seen to be the wonderful mother that she wanted praise for being. I was truly surprised that it took so long for the caregiver and authorities to figure thus out. My prayer is that these parents have grown enough through this experience to become the loving, nurturing parents that all children deserve.

Very hard to get into

Usually finish Cathy’s books the day I purchase them, but this one got off to such a slow start it was hard to listen for longer than an hour or so at a time. Feel like the first 10 or so chapters was just the same thing being repeated over and over again. A good story but feel like many chapters were just unnecessary page fillers.

Heart wrenching and well written

Cathy Glass's fostering memoirs are well written and very moving. I love the little details Cathy gives that has made me fall in love with each and every child she writes about and her own family. I have listened to every book at least 3 times. They give an insight into the world of fostering, adoption and parenting that has, I believed made me a better teacher and parent - more patient, more understanding and generally more aware. Along with other fostering memoirs, these books have inspired my mum to consider a fostering carer and I hope to foster once my own children are older. Thank you Cathy and Demica.

Not as good as previous

I enjoy the narrator, and have listened to many other books read by her and written by this author. But I don't think I'll be getting any more in the future. The last few books have been boring and predictable. I had this on preorder and it wasn't worth the wait. it's been brilliant to have an insight to the foster system and these children's lives but I feel the focus has moved into producing more books. Quantity over quality.

Another Cathy Glass classic

This one was gripping! Once I realised how the children mightve been becoming sick, I was desperate for Cathy & Social Services to work it out too. Really sad to know that this happens to children right now in the world but good to have bought awareness to FDIA/ MSBP and that it is a real thing sadly. So glad Cathy worked it out & the children were saved from further harm.

Love it..

Another Cathy Glass Fostering memoir must read! An incredibly honest account of the highs and lows of fostering and the variety of children, professionals and birth families foster carers work with. Heartwarming and Heartbreaking all at once...exactly like fostering is Bravo!

A particularly interesting memoir

I’ve read lots of Cathys memoirs and I always find them very insightful. I won’t give too much away with this one but it had me on the edge of my seat in some chapters, which may sound odd given the nature of the book but you’ll see why.
As always Cathy does her best by the children throughout their time with her. That women deserves a medal!

Another fantastic story written by Cathy Glass.

What a sad ending, although can't be changed because it's a true story. I feel awful for Cathy, the parents could have been more grateful.
