Johnny D. Boggs' writing is tough and richly detailed throughout, and William Roberts' sonorous performance comes alive when inhabiting Boggs' colorful characters. Hard Winter mixes historical fiction, Western narrative, and coming-of-age memoir to create an engrossing and novel listen.
