Empaths have so much to offer as healers, creatives, friends, lovers, and innovators at work. Yet highly sensitive and empathic people often give too much at the expense of their own well-being - and end up absorbing the stress of others. "To stay healthy and happy," writes Dr. Judith Orloff, "you must be ready with daily self-care practices that work." With Thriving as an Empath, she provides an invaluable resource to help you protect yourself from the stresses of an overwhelming world and embrace the "gift of being different".

In this updated edition, Dr. Orloff reflects on her career and the sea change that modern medicine and psychiatry have experienced since Second Sight was first published. She expands her earlier ideas and further explores intuition's role in maintaining physical health and emotional well-being, using examples from her own and her patients' lives. This is both a remarkable self-portrait of one woman's journey toward the acceptance of intuition as a therapeutic tool, and a comprehensive look at how you, too, can develop your intuition, transform your health, and revolutionize your everyday life.

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Insightful book
I love the overall message of the book. I needed to hear this. I’m glad I listened to it, but by the end, I have to admit, I was feeling a bit of information overload. There is a lot of repetition in this book, so it isn’t always easy to stay engaged. I would suggest buying this book and listening to the chapters you most need to hear – whether you are dealing with depression or constant frustration or anxiety or whatever. Listen to what you really need to hear right now, and save the rest for a later time. Focus on applying that one chapter to your life. It’ll be easier to absorb the information that way.

Fantastic
Kirsten Potter did an outstanding job at reading this amazing book by Judith Orloff. I find this to be one of the most helpful ones yet; when plagued by a specific negative emotion, just replay whichever chapter transforms it into a positive emotion until you get it right!

Very woo-woo as the author would say
I did not find this book helpful. In fact, I found listening to the audiobook version infuriating in an unreasoning, insurmountable way that I normally associate with rush hour traffic. I think it was the mystical language interspersed with pseudoscience jargon combined with vague and impractical advice. Also, the author seemed to spend an inordinate amount of the book explaining what she was going to show you later in the book in grand promises that never seemed to quite pan out. Overall just not my cup of tea.

not worth 2 credits
Thank God this was an audiobook. I would have never got through it if I had to read it. Very disappointed I used to 2 credits for this... only worth 1 in comparison to other works. There are nuggets of goodness but you have to wade through a lot of nothingness to get to something. I am sure the author knows her stuff but the reader is forced to wade through lots of none essential information to get to the point.

Very Insightful
No book ever has it 100% but this book certainly is extremely helpful. I find it very good that the author uses herself as an example so many times, proving to me that she is not just saying things, she actually relates. Her stance on spirituality seems very open and I like that, to me, this is as it should be. With an open mind anyone can find help in this book.
