For over three decades, Ray Kurzweil has been one of the most respected and provocative advocates of the role of technology in our future. In his classic The Age of Spiritual Machines, he argued that computers would soon rival the full range of human intelligence at its best. Now he examines the next step in this inexorable evolutionary process: The union of human and machine, in which the knowledge and skills embedded in our brains will be combined with the vastly greater capacity, speed, and knowledge-sharing ability of our creations.

This is an updated version of the book that accurately predicted the global stock market crash of 2008, the bursting of the real estate bubble, and Ben Bernanke's unprecedented overreaction via quantitative easing programs. First published in 2008, the book quickly became a best seller not just for its timely insight into precious metals investment but for its amazingly accurate prediction of a "roller-coaster crash" - the manipulated whipsaw between inflation, deflation, and back again.

The vast majority of theft, extortion, intimidation, harassment, assault, and even murder - in other words, the vast majority of man's inhumanity to man - comes not from the greed, hatred and intolerance that lurks in our hearts. Rather, it comes from one pernicious and almost universal assumption, one unquestioned belief, one irrational, self-contradictory superstition: the belief in "authority".

No other topic dominates our attention as much as coronavirus and COVID-19, the infectious disease it triggers. There’s been a global deluge of contradictory opinions, fake news, and politically controlled information. Differing views on the dangers posed by the pandemic have led to deep division and confusion, within governments, society, and even among friends and family. In Corona, False Alarm?, award-winning researchers Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi and Dr. Karina Reiss give clarity to these confusing and stressful times.

It may be as important for investors to know what not to do in investing as to know what to do. While investors are bombarded with the "buy me, buy me" books, little is said to train them in what to avoid. Nobody Knows Anything teaches investors what to avoid and how to trade using their own knowledge and experience rather than simply following the lemmings over the cliff of the latest investment craze.

あらすじ・解説
Famed international man and number-one best-selling author Doug Casey - in collaboration with John Hunt - releases Drug Lord, book two of the High Ground Novels.
Charles Knight returns to the United States after seven years traveling the world. He embarks on two concurrent professions: one as a major investor in a small pharmaceutical company, and the other as the head of a black market drug-smuggling and distribution operation. Charles has to sort through the legal and illegal, moral and immoral, and right and wrong as he navigates the war on drugs and the crony pharmaceutical industry.
Meet Tristana Dubocher - CEO of Charles's company (Visioryme Pharmaceuticals) - and her sniveling husband, Donald, an FDA minion. Meet Seth Fowler of the DEA, whose criminality is exceeded only by his quest for power. Get to know Rainbow, a teenage girl living on the street who runs drugs for the Alphabet Men. Their careers in the drug world are forever altered when they meet Charles.
Most importantly, meet Naked Emperor, a street drug that doesn't cloud minds, but clears them. Naked Emperor prevents people from being able to lie to themselves. Anyone dependent on deception knows that this new drug will turn the world against them. Mobs of politicians, environmentalists, academics, televangelists, jihadists, journalists, central bankers, Deep State actors, and crony parasites join forces to wipe Naked Emperor off the face of the planet.
They all want him dead. But Charles Knight intends to start a revolution.

Captures you in an instant
It is very entertaining to hear a libertarian standpoint in this way. It is also frustrating but such is life.

A great libertarian adventure.
The story is captivating and the topic is pertinent to all freedom lovers. The narrator is superb and never gets in the way of the plot.

Each one of these books are the best novel since Atlas Shrugged. Can't wait for Assassin to come out on Audible.

It’s fantastic.
This is one of those audiobooks that leaves you wanting to find a reason to drive or hideaway in your house to finish it. Then when it’s over, you are craving more.

A good dose of Naked Emperor
A brilliantly crafted novel that you can’t let it out of hand until you reach the end. It combines an exciting storyline with philosophy, history and an interesting parallel between past, present and future evolution of state and its supporting financial system. It is filled with so much substance and ideas that you can read it over again and still discover new things to think about.

Will all High Ground stories finish badly? Will always the gov prevail? I was hoping for a revange on Sabina, IRS, the establishment but none came ...

Enjoyed story but bad narrator
Narrator has horrible accents. I would suggest he practice those accents immensely or get a new narrator

Almost as good as naked emporer
A few times it is a bit preachy on libertarian philosophy, probably necessary to get the uninitiated up to speed. Intriguing plot well played. I definitely look forward to the rest of the series.

Excellent second book in series
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Much of the time.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Got me concerned and a bit upset with the state of our federal bureaucracy.
Any additional comments?
How does the author come up with all these ideas and concepts? Very educational and entertaining!

Even Better Than The First!!!
Such a captivating story. The plot and the characters were even more interesting in this book than the last, like taking Ayn Rand's character Howard Rourke and injecting him as James Bond into a modern and blessedly shorter version of her book Atlas Shrugged. I was at first a little skeptical of Doug Casey's interest at getting into fiction novels - but these guys have absolutely nailed it with the most entertaining fiction I've read in a long time. The content is SO relevant to solving the problems of the world today, I now recommend it to everyone I know. Very inspiring.

Loved It
Would you consider the audio edition of Drug Lord to be better than the print version?
I've only listened to the audio version and the narrator did a great job
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sabina because Doug has taught me to be a contrarian, it'd be too obvious to say Charles
What does John Pruden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I have slight dyslexia so John has enabled me to digest this book in a few days as opposed to a few weeks, I found him to be highly engaging and a pleasure to listen to.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
'Deboucher Eats Shit'
Any additional comments?
Can't wait for the 3rd book, I wish all of Doug's books were available on Audible, also Doug if you happen to read this it would be great to see a new 'crisis investing' book
